Countermeasures against Barroth

Recommended Weapon Element and Armor Skills

Recommended Weapon Element
Water Weapon	Barroth is weakest against water when covered in mud.
Fire Weapon	Barroth is weakest against fire when not covered in mud.
Ice Weapon	But because Barroth builds resistance to fire when covered in mud and resistance to water when not covered in mud, it might be more convenient to bring weapons with the ice element when you don't want to wait or use Puddle Pods.
Raw Weapon	Alternatively, you can also just use a weapon that does not have any element.
Blast Weapon	Barroth has low resistance to blast damage.
Recommended Armor Skills
Muck Resistance	Barroth will sometimes put out piles of mud, which you can get stuck in. This skill helps you get out of them faster (but it should be noted that you will still get stunned by it).
Flinch Free	If you have it and can level it up to Lvl 3, Flinch Free will be way better than Muck Resistance since it prevents you from tripping in mud piles at all.
Earplugs	Barroth has a small roar, so you only need to level Earplugs up to Lvl 3 to nullify it.

How to Beat Barroth

Avoid Attacking the Head

The head of Barroth is extremely hard and most slash-type melee weapons will only bounce off. You should aim for the legs as they are the softest part of Barroth.

Mud Armor

One of the unique characteristics of Barroth is that he can cover himself with a mud armor that can enhance his attacks and fortify his defense. Try to stay defensive during this state and wait for the mud armor to release before trying to engage again.

Bowguns are Recommended

Barroth will often bounce off any melee attacks if it lands near the head. It is recommended that you use weapons such as Light Bowgun or a Heavy Bowgun to dish out damage at a distance without having to worry about the sharpness of your weapon.

Use the Environment

You can lure Barroth when he is using his rush attack to hit nearby rock pillars that are present throughout the area. Making him headbutt the rock pillar will stun him for a few seconds allowing you to attack with your most powerful combos.
