You can also get 1 Variable Die when you reach Level 40 in the Nameless Glory Battle Pass. That means you need to purchase the Nameless Glory upgrade to obtain this reward.

You can also use the Omni-Synthesizer to turn 3 Self-Modeling Resin into 1 Variable Die. There's no limit to the amount of times you can synthesize Variable Dice in this manner.

Reroll Relic Sub-Stat Enhancements

HSR - How to Use Variable Dice

Upon leveling up a 5-star Relic to Level 15, Variable Dice can be used to redistribute the sub-stat enhancements. This means you have another chance to increase a sub-stat you prefer over another or make a preferred sub-stat gain more enhancements than the original results!

You can choose whether to keep the original or new stat enhancements offered. However, the Variable Dice will be consumed even if you decide to keep the original stat enhancements instead.

Reroll the New Stat Obtained

Relic Sub Stats • HP (Flat) / HP%
• ATK (Flat) / ATK%
• DEF (Flat) / DEF%
• Speed (Flat)
• Break Effect% 		• Effect RES%
• Effect Hit Rate%
• CRIT Rate%
• CRIT DMG%

If your Relic gains a new stat at the Level 15 enhancement, Variable Dice can also reroll the sub-stat that's obtained! Take note that the Variable Dice can't change the existing sub-stat types that are already on your Relic. Above are all the possible sub-stats that can be obtained!
