Civ7 - Floods

Flood is a natural disaster in Civilization VII (Civ 7) that often occurs in coastal settlements. Learn more about floods and how to prevent them in this guide.

Floods Explained

Natural Disaster in Coastal or Riverside Settlements

Flood is one of the natural disasters that mostly occur when settling in coastal regions or tiles near rivers.

Like most disasters, floods can destroy buildings depending on their frequency, but any damage to settlements can be easily repaired each turn.

How to Repair Buildings

How to Prevent Floods

Check Flood Warnings

When looking for new tiles for settlements, some will have flood warnings on the map, indicating that a flood may occur if you settle there. It's best to avoid these tiles and be mindful of their placement to prevent floods!

When to Build More Settlements

Change Disaster Intensity to Light

You can also minimize the frequency of natural disasters in the Disaster Intensity settings when starting a new save file. Although this doesn’t fully prevent them, setting it to Light will reduce the chances of floods occurring.

No Dams in Civ 7

Rivers

In previous titles, you can build dams to prevent damage to tiles when a flood happens. However, dams are currently unavailable in Civ 7.

With future updates, though, there's a good chance that dams will make a return and become a solution to flood hazards!
