You'll encounter a narrative event containing some Morse Code in Civilization VII (Civ 7). Check out this guide to find out what the Morse Code means and what choice to pick to get a positive result!

--.- .- --. ..... .--- Translation: QAG5J |
In the Modern Age, you might come across a Narrative Event showing some hyphens and periods which represent Morse Code. When you translate the Morse Code, it may look like gibberish at first but it's actually abbreviations.
| Abbreviation | Meaning |
|---|---|
| CQDEA4RK (Prompt) |
"Calling from A4R, over." |
| GAOMHW? (1st Choice) |
"Good afternoon old man, how do you copy my signal?" |
| QAG5J (2nd Choice) |
"Arrange your flight in order to arrive over at 5J." |
"A4R" and "5J" are probably made-up location codes for the narrative event.
| Warm Greetings | |

--. .- -.. .-. --- -- ..- .-. ..... ----. ----. Translation: GADROMUR599 |
Selecting the first choice in the first narrative event will get you the following Morse code response next turn and grant you +900 Science.
| Abbreviation | Meaning |
|---|---|
| GADROMUR | "Good afternoon dear old man, you are..." |
| 599 | 5 - perfectly readable 9 - extremely strong signal 9 - perfect tone |
"GADROMUR599" means "Good afternoon dear old man, you are 599." The numbers at the end describe the signal received which basically says that the signal is clear and understood.
| A Chilly Response | |

|
-. .. .-.. .-.. .. -.. ... -.- Translation: NILLIDSK |
The second choice leads to the following response in the next turn and give you -50% Science for 3 turns.
| Abbreviation | Meaning |
|---|---|
| NIL | "Nothing" which means no signal to transmit or transmitted. |
| LID | "Poor operator" which means the operator has poor transmission quality or technique. |
| SK | "Silent key" which means end of contact indicating the end of transmission. |
"NILLIDSK" would then roughly mean "No signal, poor radio operator" indicating a negative response to your message.

Really enjoying how clear the tips are on this Civ 7 comment thread — a few of these strategies totally changed how I approach early expansion. It’s cool seeing how different players handle the same challenges. I also mess around with decoding random messages for fun sometimes using this: <a href="https://www.morse-code-translator.world/" rel="nofollow ugc">Morse Code Translator</a>.
