Send Scouts to see the Resource Map early in the game in Civilization VII (Civ 7) to view all available resources. Learn how to see the Resource Map during the early stages of your gameplay in this guide.

The best way to scan your resource map is to deploy a couple of scouts and have them explore in the first few turns. Depending on the type of map, exploration can be either short or long. For example, in the Antiquity Age, exploration will be short since you'll be locked on one continent at the start.
However, from the Exploration Age onwards, you'll need to research Cartography first to unlock naval exploration for your units and access resources from Distant Lands.

Be sure to save before sending scouts to explore the map. Otherwise, the game may autosave, leaving you stuck at a point where scouts are already deployed, wasting turns and money.

After scanning the entire map, take a couple of screenshots to mark the available resources. Then, reload the save file and plan your build accordingly.

If you want to restart with a different leader while keeping the same map, be sure to grab the Map Seed from the menu. When starting a new game, you can alter the Map Seed by going to the Advanced Options. A random seed will be there, but you can replace it with the one from where you last explored.

Resources in the same Map Seed will always appear on the same tiles in every load state. While your starting position may change, the Resource Map will remain unchanged.
However, reloading the same Map Seed in different ages can alter some resources. For example, the Cotton in the map above changed to Truffles when using the same Map Seed in the Exploration Age.

Knowing your Resource Map helps you prioritize certain resource-based bonuses. For example, Iron and Horses provide military advantages, Jade and Silver boost Gold income, and Dyes and Pearls improve Happiness yields.
With these bonuses in mind, you can aim for a specific victory more efficiently as you expand and build new settlements.
