Dark Age Legacies lets you receive bonuses at the cost of negative effects in the next Age in Civilization VII. Read on to learn what are Dark Age Legacies and how to obtain them.

What are Dark Age Legacies?

Gives Bonuses at the Cost of Debuffs

Dark Age Legacies
Dark Age Legacies give players powerful bonuses in the next age at the cost of applying negative effects. For example, one Dark Age Legacy makes it easier to research specific Techs, but it also increases the time it takes to produce a specific Unit.

In contrast, Golden Age Legacies allow players to keep more of their civlizations intact after an Age transition. These include effects such as retaining the yields, effects, and adjacency bonuses of specific buildings.

Note that you are not required to choose a Dark Age Legacy once you reach the next Age. You can use it to catch up in the next Age if you feel like you are lagging behind and cannot achieve any of the game's victory conditions.

How to Unlock Dark Age Legacies

Unlocked Automatically If You Do Not Progress in a Legacy Path

Economic Dark Age Legacy
Dark Age Legacies are unlocked by default if you do not complete the any milestone of a Legacy Path. Once the player starts a new Age, they can choose and activate one Dark Age Legacy to start with.

Golden Age Legacies, on the other hand, require completing all of the milestones of a chosen Legacy Path to unlock them.
