Distant Lands in Civilization VII (Civ 7) are new regions accessible starting from the Exploration Age. Learn more about Distant Lands and how to reach them in this guide.
List of Contents

Distant Lands are new areas you can explore in the Exploration Age onward. These regions are only accessible by crossing the open ocean, and their distance from the mainland depends on the map type.

The main feature of Distant Lands is the Treasure Resources, which are essential for progressing through the Economic Legacy Path in this age. You'll need to claim these resources to use Treasure Fleets.
How to Get and Use Treasure Resources

Distant Lands are also home to new leaders not present in the Antiquity Age. You can befriend them to open more trade routes or challenge them to capture their settlements.
Leaders List and All Abilities

Cartography is the key technology required to progress several Legacy Paths in the Exploration Age. Researching it allows you to cross the open ocean and access Distant Lands.

Once you can access the open ocean, use Scouts to find the best routes to Distant Lands. This is important because rough seas can damage your units. If they take the longest route, your units may not survive.

After reaching Distant Lands, you can start sending Settlers to establish a new town. Choose areas with fresh water and easy access to Treasure Resources, especially if you're following the Economic Legacy Path.
However, if your Settlers are heavily damaged, feel free to settle on yellow tiles instead. There’s a high chance that Independent Powers will greet them on the other end, so settling immediately increases their chances of survival.
