You can heal units by having them skip the turn without doing anything. This will heal about a tenth of their health at the start of the next turn. Units packed with a Commander also heal when the Commander skips the turn completely.
This way of healing units is recommended when there are enemies nearby, as you can see if you should move the unit or if they are still safe to continue healing.

An easier way to heal your units is by using the Heal action. After selecting a damaged unit, click the small arrow on the left side of its image to see the other actions it can take then click the button with the crescent and heart symbols.
Using the Heal action automatically skips turns for that unit until it is fully healed. They can still be manually selected and moved each turn, but they won't be included in the Command Units cycle.
The Heal action is recommended when there are no hostile units around to disturb your unit's rest, especially if they're standing on friendly territory.

If your units are fighting in an open area or during war, it is recommended to select Fortify first then Rest the next turn. This will create a temporary defense bonus in case an enemy unit comes and attack it. You could also do this to block enemies in a narrow area.

During a war, you can direct your units to pillage or raid another settlement tile. This will grant them some health and give you a few yields based on the tile.

Units recover more health when they rest within friendly territory, an advantage that should be utilized when being invaded. In cases where you're the invader, settling near your opponent makes it easier for your units to retreat and heal when their health drops to a critical level.

Another way to increase healing is to level up your Commander until they have enough points to unlock the Field Medic promotion under the Logistics Tree. This increases the health recovered per turn for units within their command radius when they're not in friendly territory.
Choosing a Fort Town as a town's specialization makes all its tiles heal friendly units for +5 more HP per turn. A good strategy is to place a town near an opponent and unlock its specializations so you can use the Fort Town as a retreat point after declaring war.

Additionally, choosing the God of Healing Pantheon in the Antiquity Age increases the amount healed by units standing on Rural tiles, or tiles improved through a Growth Event.
