Relics are Great Works needed to progress the Culture Legacy Path of the Exploration Age in Civilization VII (Civ 7). Learn what Relics are, how to get them easily, and the difference between Relics and Artifacts in this guide!
List of Contents
| 1 | Study the Piety Civic |
|---|---|
| 2 | Build a Temple to establish a Religion |
| 3 | Configure your Reliquary Belief |
| 4 | Train Missionaries and convert foreign settlements to your Religion |
The best way to get Relics is to spread your Religion to other civilizations. To establish your own Religion, you must first study the Piety Civic to unlock the Temple building.
The Temple building unlocked through studying Piety is the last step to establishing a Religion. We recommend building the first Temple in the settlement closest to other civilizations to make it easier for your first Missionaries to reach the foreign settlements.
The settlement where you built the first Temple will also become your Holy City and will become inconvertible by other Religions.
Your Religion's Reliquary Belief determines your method of acquiring Relics by converting foreign settlements. Each Reliquary Belief can't be used by more than one Leader, so rushing the Temple is a huge advantage for the Culture Legacy Path as you can pick the belief that you want.
We highly recommend choosing Icons when progressing Culture Legacy Path as it provides 2 Relics for every first-time converted city-state. With this Reliquary Belief, you can simply place Missionaries on an Independent Power and convert them right after they become a city-state to get the Relics.

Depending on the Reliquary Belief that you picked, you must train and use Missionaries to spread your Religon to foreign settlements to obtain Relics. Once you convert a foreign settlement with your Missionary, you will automatically gain a specific number of Relics depending on the Beliefs picked.
Display these Relics in buildings with Relic slots, like the Palace and Temples, to add to your Culture Legacy Path score.
Narrative Events also have a chance of granting the player a Relic when the option is chosen. Keep an eye out on these Events to add to your Relic count.
Completing the study on Theology immediately gives a Relic. This is the first Civic on the unique Theology Civic Tree. Additionally, if you're playing as Hawai'i, researching their unique Heʻe nalu Civic gives 2 Relics.
The Masteries of Social Class, Sovereignty, and Imperialism grants a Relic each. These are the only Civics in the main Civic Tree that directly rewards a Relic upon studying.

Culture Victory Guide and How to Win

The main difference of Relics and Artifacts is they are found in the Exploration Age and Modern Age, respectively.
Missionaries are required to spread their Religion in foreign settlements to gain Relics while Explorers need to go around continents to research and unearth Artifacts from digging spots before they can be displayed in the empire.
