+Spd/-Res

The best IVs for Pirate Naesala are +Spd and -Res. Pirate Naesala needs to win Spd checks to create follow-up attacks, which are performed consecutively due to Crossbones Claw. Since he is a melee attacker, his Def is a higher priority than his Res, thus having Res as his bane is preferable despite being a superbane.

+Spd for a +10 Merge

We recommend a +Spd IV when merging Pirate Naesala to +10 for similar reasons. +Atk is also a fine option if you are investing further into his Spd with his A and seal slots.

How to Use, Explanation

This build utilizes double Atk/Spd Solo skills to allow Naesala to engage, kill, and then retreat back with S/D Near Trace. Atk Smoke 3 debuffs enemies to help patch Naesala's poor defenses during enemy phase.

Naesala has huge boosts from his skills when he's initiating combat and transformed so he should start fights whenever possible! The bonuses are as follows:

  1. Inflicts Spd/Def-6 from his weapon
  2. Nullifies effects that prevent him from following up attacks
  3. Allows him to make a follow-up attack before the foe can counterattack
  4. Atk/Spd+7 due to Atk/Spd Solo 4
  5. Inflicts Spd/Def-3 from S/D Near Trace 3

Stall Ploy counters extra movement!

Pirate Naesala debuts with a new C skill, Stall Ploy 3.

At the start of turn, it debuffs units with extra movement skills in his cardinal directions and more HP than him and forces them to move only 1 space instead.

This is a powerful skill as it counters units with Odd Tempest, Even Tempest, and a unit like Legendary Sigurd.

Pirate Naesala Weaknesses

Locked in the player phase

While his weapon and A skill gives massive firepower, the drawback is that Naesala suffers from a weak enemy phase. He needs to initiate to get the Desperation effect on his weapon, and is left with little to defend himself with.

Because of the lack of Distant Counter, he's also vulnerable in the enemy phase, especially against ranged enemy units as he cannot retaliate.

Weak to bows

As a flying unit, Pirate Naesala takes 1.5x damage from bows and weapons effective on flying units. Be sure to keep him out of the range of archers and leave them to other units.

Low HP stat

Pirate Naesala also has a low HP stat which makes him an awkward carrier of his skill Stall Ploy 3. He has just enough HP to affect Legendary Sigurd, but that may change depending on outside factors such as Mythic heroes or HP boosting skills.

Pirate Naesala carries multiple skills that are worth giving to other units:

  1. Atk/Spd Solo 4 is a great skill for offensive units that prioritize not being adjacent to other allies
  2. S/D Near Trace 3 is an amazing skill for added mobility after combat
  3. Stall Ploy 3 is unique to Pirate Naesala (as of August 2021) and is a niche skill that can be utilized against specific foes like Legendary Sigurd

Through pre-inheriting, it is possible to use one copy of Pirate Naesala to inherit both Atk/Spd Solo 4 and another skill tree in his kit.
