Neutral IVs by default!

As a hero obtainable only through Tempest Trials, Gerome will always have neutral IVs by default. The only way to access IVs for this unit is through using Trait Fruits.

+Atk/-Res

The best IVs for Gerome are +Atk and -Res. A +Atk IV maximizes the damage 1.5x damage multiplier his weapons against cavalry units. As mainly an offensive unit whose job is to match-up with cavalry foes, increasing damage is a no-brainer so you should take this IV whenever possible. Because he is a free unit, you would need to spend Trait Fruits to get this IV.

His Res is very low and is of less importance so it is safe to take as a bane.

+Atk for a +10 Merge

We recommend a +Atk IV when merging Gerome to 10. This is for the same reasons as above. With +10 merges and some investment, he can take out lots of cavalry units in one hit!

How to Use, Explanation

This is an offensive build for Gerome using Brave Axe. Death Blow on both A and the Sacred Seal slot will up his offensive power, while Atk/Def Rein will debuff his target. A/D Near Trace will also inflict debuffs, while also allowing him to retreat to safety.

How to Use, Explanation

This build utilizes Gerome as a physical enemy phase tank unit. Masking Axe's refine effect creates a huge stat swing on the Atk and Def stats of Gerome and his foes. Dual Atk/Def Solo skills further amplify Gerome's Atk and Def, while Guard Bearing reduces damage taken on enemy phase.

We recommend the Special Effect Refine for Masking Axe

Masking Axe's refine gives Gerome Atk/Def+6 at the start of the turn and inflicts Atk/Def-5 to the foe if he is not adjacent to any ally. This adds up to an 11 point stat swing on Atk and Def, allowing Gerome to fulfill his role as a physical tank much easier than usual.

Gerome is a close physical attacker (range = 1). Therefore, when not accounting for the Weapon Triangle, the amount of damage he deals will be equivalent to his Atk minus the foe's Def stat.

Gerome Strengths

Masking Axe provides various Atk and Def stat swings

Masking Axe provides the following stat changes:

  1. Atk/Def+5 to unit during combat if foe initiates combat or if foe's HP ≥ 75% at start of combat
  2. Atk/Def-5 on foe during combat if Gerome is not adjacent to any allies
  3. Atk/Def+6 at the start of the turn if Gerome is not adjacent to any allies

These all add up to a 16 point stat swing on Atk and Def, making Gerome a formidable physical tank assuming all of these conditions are met.

Powerful against cavalry

With his 5★ weapon skill Masking Axe, Gerome can deal 1.5x damage to cavalry units. If you need a designated horse slayer, do not look past Gerome. Though he has low Res, if he gets to Reinhardt, he can definitely take the powerhouse out. He can also definitely match-up with other cavalry powerhouses like Veronica.

Powerful high-SP assist skill in Rally Atk/Def

Gerome has a good assist skill in Rally Atk/Def. Primarily, it is a Atk/Def buff that can be used on your allies to boost their Atk/Def by +3. These buffs can easily be exploited by a Blade tome unit like Tharja so it can be said that even base kit Gerome is already powerful ally to pair Blade tome units with.

It is also a high-SP skill so it can be definitely used to increase your score in the Arena.

Hit and Run can be a useful utility skill

Gerome's B skill, Hit and Run, moves Gerome a space backward if he initiates combat. This allows for some pretty useful interactions such as having an ally use Drag Back on him. If the unit he attacked is an armored unit, they will not be able to hit Gerome in the next phase. Units in the back line of the enemy who can normally attack an initiating ally can also lose reach of Gerome.

It is a lackluster skill without the strategy, but if you put some thought into it, Hit and Run can win you some maps.

Gerome Weaknesses

Low Res

Gerome'sRes only sits at 19 at Lv.40. This makes it easy for magic users to take him out. Be mindful of Gerome's positioning in relation to magical units that can easily take him out. Despite his attribute, he can still be taken out by stronger blue magic units because of his absurdly low Res stat.

Weak to bows

As a flying unit, Gerome takes 1.5x damage from bows and weapons effective on flying units. Be sure to keep them out of the range of archers and leave them to other units.
