The level or type of Deerling doesn't matter. Aim slightly above the Deerling when taking the picture to make sure the Sawsbuck is counted as being in the frame, otherwise it only gives three stars instead of four.
Level 3 locked- hit first crystal bloom to call deerling Then 2nd just just beside it. Next hit the back one- do not hit the front one. Then hit the 4th one, this will call espeon down, if it waits, you have successfully done it as it will go to the crystalbloom and sing a little and look around, the parent will come from behind.
the form does not matter. I completed it with summer form deerling.
I'm checking through the other levels, seems like level 3 is the soonest. I'm not sure if it -needs- to be of the winter form, previously got the summer form sawsbuck and it didn't seem to register. It may need to be the deerling for the request to be filled. The hint image has it on the winter sawsbuck, so that's why I figured it may be form dependant. You will probably want other people to comment to double-check on the form!

Figured it out! You need to get to go through the second area that's in fall, and then the third area that's foggy. Note: make sure you see the deerling Approach each correct flower you light up!! You need to light up the first two, and then in the third area you want to only light the flower in the back, (not the front!!), Then there will be one last flower you need to light up. Sawsbuck will show up. I got a picture of the deerling and it worked. I got it with winter form in lvl 3
