You can take a 1 Star photo of Sandshrew in Research Level 2 of Sands (Night) by taking a photo of the Pokemon while it is walking or standing still. The best spot to take this photo is through the alternate path under the boulder next to Kangaskhan since the Sandshrew in this spot is close to the player. Toss a Fluffruit at the Pokemon to make it unroll itself and take a photo as it walks.

Near the end of the Sands (Night) course at Research Level 2, you can find a Sandshrew walking along the sand. As you approach the Sandshrew, play the Melody to make the Pokemon sit and take a photo of it to get a 3 Star photo.

To take a 4 Star photo of Sandshrew, you need to follow the steps to completing the Roll and Stop request and take a photo of a Sandshrew right as it stops rolling after you hit it with a Fluffruit. It is recommended to use Burst Mode when taking this photo since Sandshrew moves quickly along the sand.

3 star directions didn’t work for me, but I got a 3 star after tossing an orb at the Sandshrew that was by the Lycanrock and it rolled up as I took a picture of it
