When Asta sends you a message asking for a chat back at the Herta Space Station, respond to it to unlock The Dawn After the Dark quest chain. This quest chain deals with Arlan, allowing you to take on his Companion Mission: An Unexpected Turn of Events.

| 1 | Make your way to the Master Control Zone of Herta Space Station and speak to Asta to begin the mission. |
| 2 | Follow Asta's dog, Peppy, through the Master Control Zone. The dog will lead you to the first person who knows Arlan's location - Professor Capote. |
| 3 | Confront Professor Capote and his group of admirers. Select the following dialogue choices to get an answer out of him: ・(Nod in Approval) ・(Spares no effort in praising...) ・(Threaten Capote with dismissal...) Note: Failing the dialogue prompts will not affect the mission outcome since the game allows you to re-do the conversation in order to pick the correct options. |
| 4 | Once you pass the speech checks, Capote's fans will hand you three mission items. Take the following items back to Asta to continue the mission. ・Master Capote's Fan Reply Card ・Master Capote's Limited-Edition Snapshot ・Master Capote's Life Wiki |
| 5 | After Asta determines Arlan's problem (an overbearing boss), follow Peppy to the Base Zone of Herta Space Station. Interact with Peppy at the center of the lobby and have the dog lead you to Dan Heng. |
| 6 | Help Dan Heng and the security forces fight off remnants of the Antimatter Legion. |
| 7 | When the battle ends, speak to Dan Heng to learn more about Arlan's self-imposed trial. Once the conversation finishes, you will get three more mission items. Bring these to Asta again to progress the mission. ・Arlan's ID Pass ・Broken Ceiling Tile ・Footprint |
| 8 | Next, teleport to the Supply Zone level of the space station. Interact with Peppy again to have the dog lead you to March 7th. |
| 9 | Speak to March 7th to find out where Arlan went. Once the conversation ends, you will receive the final mission item, a Photo of Arlan's Back. |
| 10 | With Arlan's motives puzzled out, head deeper into the Supply Zone by teleporting to the Spare Parts Warehouse Space Anchor. |
| 11 | As soon as you arrive, turn around and examine the Fragmentum crystal near the wall. |
| 12 | Head deeper into the Supply Zone. Deal with enemies blocking your way as you make your way to Arlan. |
| 13 | Enter the large loom at the end of the Supply Zone. Defeat the enemies inside including the Blaze Out of Space that cornered Arlan. |
| 14 | Once the boss is beaten, confront Arlan with the evidence you've gathered. Choose the following items to complete the Companion Mission. ・Master Capote's Life Wiki ・Arlan's ID Pass ・Photo of Arlan's Back |

Completing the mission will allow Arlan to become a visitor aboard the Astral Express. Now, whenever you go back to the Astral Express, there will be chance to run into Arlan and interact with him.
Completing this mission will also reward players with a Peppy Profile Picture. To equip it, simply open your phone in-game and select the portrait next to your Trailblazer's name. This will open a menu of unlocked Profile Pictures for you to choose from.
