Defeating Guangmou in the Bamboo Grove near the Snake Trail Keeper's Shrine in Chapter 1 unlocks the Guangmou Spirit.
To reach Guangmou's boss arena, start at the Shrine, cross the river, and follow the path into the bamboo grove. Continue along the path, passing by the snake enemies, until you reach the statues that mark the entrance to Guangmou's boss arena.
The Guangmou spirit allows you to transform into Guangmou and summon spectral snakes that launch poisonous projectiles. Each projectile inflicts a small amount of Poison damage and applies the Poison status effect.
The spectral snakes summoned by the Veiled Vipers skill can also serve as distractions for enemy attacks but are relatively fragile.
Having Guangmou as your equipped spirit enhances your Poison Resistance by 6 and increases the Poison damage you deal.

Spirits you’ve acquired can be cultivated or upgraded at Keeper's Shrines to enhance their effectiveness. To do this, access any Keeper's Shrine, select "Self-Advance," and then choose "Cultivate Spirits."
Cultivating Spirits requires Will and other materials, such as Blood of the Iron Bull.

Combat Tier | |||
Pros | |||
• Early source of the Poison status effect | |||
Cons | |||
• Slow start up • Projectiles are easily avoided by fast and nimble bosses • Projectiles have low Poison proc-rate, sometimes missing the Poison to build up. • The snakes are fragile and easily die from wide-hitting boss attacks |
Guangmou's Veiled Vipers ability summons two snakes that each fire around seven projectiles, requiring about six hits to Poison an enemy. This skill is not effective against groups of enemies because the snakes often change targets, preventing any one enemy from being successfully Poisoned. Therefore, Veiled Vipers is best used in boss fights.
However, the overall damage from the snakes, including the Poison effect, only amounts to about 10% of a boss's health. This makes it one of the weaker Spirit Skills in terms of damage, especially since it’s difficult to ensure all the projectiles hit consistently. Additionally, the passive effects—Poison Resistance and Poison Damage—are underwhelming, further reducing the skill's overall effectiveness.
Steps to Use Spirit Skills |

|
To absorb spirits, you must first obtain the Blessed Gourd upgrade from an old man near the Snake Trail Keeper's Shrine in the Bamboo Grove. From the shrine, climb the stairs and approach the man on the left to trigger a cutscene and unlock the Blessed Gourd.
Once you have the Blessed Gourd, you can absorb defeated spirits by interacting with their purple remnants after a battle. If you missed absorbing a spirit, it can be retrieved from any Keeper's Shrine.
You can view and equip spirits in the "Spirits" section of the Equipment Menu. Each spirit has an active Spirit Skill that can be used in combat and a passive Equipped Effect that boosts your stats simply by equipping the spirit.
Spirit Skills can be activated by pressing the corresponding command once your Qi meter is full. Qi is accumulated by hitting enemies or resting at a Keeper's Shrine.
