It is possible to be locked to a specific route on this quest if you have 4 Walnut Grapes in your inventory. Giving Walnut Grapes instead of Bitter Kiwis will make the affinity of Migaga and Kofuku bad. Make sure to sell your Walnut Grapes first before investigating the smell to avoid the route lock.
