Being a Straight Sword, the Long Sword very rarely comes into situations it can't handle. It's a convenient weapon that is easy to make use of for any playstyle.

Dragon Long Sword in 2-2 is Even Better

The Long Sword you can find in 2-2: Armor Spider Archstone is actually a Dragon Long Sword, which as its name suggests, already comes upgraded to Dragon +1. Due to its lack of scaling, this weapon is especially useful in many early game situations. As 2-1 is a fairly easy level to get through, making your way to this sword before taking on other areas is a good idea.
