This is a walkthrough guide for Outpost Passage to Forlorn Passage, the tutorial areas in the Demon's Souls Remake (DS) for PS5. Read on for tips on how to complete this area, how to defeat the Vanguard Demon boss, and items that can be found!

Fight Through and Loot the Starting Area
| Step-by-step Walkthrough | |

| 1 |  Create your character. Your character will be the backbone of your playstyle as you approach fighting enemies throughout the game. The Providential Ring is a great choice to get extra items down the line. ▶︎ Best Starting Class |
| 2 |  Fight through Outpost Passage. As you spawn in, the signs on the floor are the controls tutorials. Continue onwards and kill the dregs as you move forward. |
| 3 |  Pick up Healing Grass. Pick up the shining loot for Crescent Moon Grass Effects along the path to heal yourself if low on HP. During the tutorial, you cannot die, so save them before using them later on. |
| 4 |  Use the Mantle mechanic. At the bridge, take the loot nearby, then mantle over the wooden railing to go down. |
Touch Archstone to Forlorn Passage
After mantling and landing down, defeat the 4 dregs in the area and head towards the Archstone in the gazebo. Before activating it, make sure to turn right to pick up some extra x2 Crescent Moon Grass to the right.
Head to the Vanguard Demon

| 1 |  Defeat armored soldiers and Blue Eyed Knights ahead, collecting grass on the way. |
| 2 |  By the first fog, be sure to loot the Crossbow men after killing them since they each drop x3 Crescent Moon Grass. Press on ahead towards the final area. |
| 3 |  The next fog gate leads to the Vanguard Demon boss. We recommend using heavy-armor classes such as the Soldier or Templar Knight, then removing some armor pieces to improve rolling and dodging. ▶︎ What is Equipment Burden? |
| 4 |  The Vanguard is tough at low levels, but is possible to beat. If you die, you will immediately transfer to the Nexus and cannot return to the tutorial passage. If you beat the Vanguard Demon by carefully dodging its slow attacks, activate the Archstone that appears nearby to collect its soul and transport to the Unknown Egress. |
(Optional) Vanguard Demon Defeat Rewards
In the Unknown Egress, accessible after defeating the Vanguard, collect all the loot in the area to get extra Upgrade Materials, Souls, and Iron Helm.
Tutorial Boss Guide
Vanguard Demon
The Vanguard Demon is the first boss of the game, fought at the end of the Forlorn Passage. The Tutorial ends whether you manage to defeat it or get killed by it, ultimately leading you to the Nexus.

Check the Bloodstains
The bloodstain markings "Read Message" prompts have the game's tutorial tips. They teach all the basic controls you'll need to move around and fight.
Don't Waste Healing Grass
There is no need to use any Healing Grass before the boss fight against the Vanguard Demon, if you plan on defeating it. You cannot die in the tutorial before the Vanguard, and your health replenishes when you return to the Nexus.
Defeating the Vanguard Demon Boss Grants Rewards
After defeating the boss that will end your tutorial, you will be able to touch the Archstone to claim some juicy items. They aren't necessarily game-changing, but they are a nice bonus for the effort given to slay your first mighty demon. Proceed to the dragon, which shows a cutscene of a scripted death to transport you to the Nexus.
Note: Whether you win or lose against the Vanguard Demon, you will be transported back to the Nexus to continue the story.
Outpost Passage All Items
Early Healing Grass Stacks
There are plenty of common Crescent Moon Grass healing items to grab from set locations and drops from Crossbow enemies. You can also loot Half Moon Grass in the area from the Blue Knights. Save these for future levels.
Upgrade Materials, Souls, and Iron Helm
There are a few extra Souls Items you can collect and consume later. Several are found together with Upgrade Materials located in the Unknown Egress, together with the Iron Helm. The location is available only if the Vanguard was defeated.
Pick these up for an early boost to your Soul count, giving you an advantage in the early levels.
