Our demo guide will walk you through all the questions you may have about the Metroid Dread Demo for the Nintendo Switch. Read on to learn about the demo's release date, all its contents, features, and updates, the demo length, and how to download it!
List of Contents
When the first free update for Metroid Dread was released on February 10, 2022, it included several updates to the demo version of the game as well. The playable area in the demo has been expanded and the Corpious Boss fight was included in the demo.
In addition, the new Rookie Mode difficulty, which was added to the full game, was also added to the demo as well.
Version 2.0.0 Free Update Patch Notes
You can try out the Metroid Dread Demo by downloading it for free on the Nintendo Eshop, which will include a portion of the gamplay found in the full game.
The Demo plays through the same events of the game, but it ends after you defeat Corpious and obtain the Phantom Cloak, which can take a little over an hour. Once you have reached the end of the demo, a message will appear and you can either be sent to the Nintendo Eshop or brought back to the title screen.
You cannot save your game in the demo, and you will need to restart from the beginning each time you exit the game. This also means that you cannot load from your last save point in the system options, but you can load from your last checkpoint.
Amiibo scanning is disabled in the demo, so you cannot use your Metroid Amiibos to increase your missile and energy capacity or replenish your ammo and energy.
In the full game of Metroid Dread, once you have finished your first playthrough, you can skip all cutscenes in subsequent playthroughs of the game. In the demo, however, you cannot skip cutscenes even after completing your first run, but you can still skip cutscenes within a playthrough.
You can replay the demo as many times as you like, but it will always end after defeating the White EMMI.
The free-to-play Demo for Metroid Dread was dropped for the Nintendo Switch on October 28, 2021, 20 days after the original release date of Metroid Dread on October 8.
