Unfortunately, Metroid Dread will not follow the events of the Metroid Prime series as the game that is set to follow that series is Metroid Prime 4, which is still currently under development. You can learn more about all the Metroid games on their official website.
Though Samus will have an entirely new power suit design in the new Metroid game, her power suit still seems to take inspiration from her previous power suit in Metroid Fusion. It will still have the same red and blue color scheme but with a more technological look.
Since Metroid Dread is the fifth game in a franchise that spans 35 years, many players feel pressured to catch up with earlier games before tackling Metroid Dread.
However, the developers of Metroid Dread have stated time and again that playing the earlier games in the franchise will not be necessary. The game does a good job of catching players up on Metroid lore.
Feel free to jump in to Metroid Dread for Nintendo Switch even without playing earlier games. If you'd like to familiarize yourself more with the characters in the game, please visit our Metroid Dread Character pages!
