Samus Overview

Who is Samus Aran?

Samus Aran is a bounty hunter hired by the Galactic Federation to rid of any galactic threats. Armed with a Power Suit and Arm Cannon designed by the ancient Chozo race, she is one of the strongest warriors in the galaxy.

She lost her parents and the home planet at the hands of the Space Pirates and was raised by the Chozo on planet Zebes. The Chozo transplanted a strand of Chozo DNA to Samus to help her survive the harsh environment of planet Zebes.

Samus Aran in Metroid Dread

Samus landed on planet ZDR after being sent by the Galactic Federation there to investigate the possible reemergence of the deadly X-Parasite. As she got off from her spaceship, she encountered a mysterious Chozo warrior. Despite Samus wearing Chozo armor and carry Chozo DNA, the warrior suddenly attacks and overwhelms Samus.

After the attack, Samus awakens in Artaria, the deepest location on planet ZDR. What could be lurking on this planet that corrupted the EMMI? What secrets will she uncover?

Samus Aran in Previous Games

Metroid (NES)

The Galactic Federation discovered an unknown lifeform on planet SR888, which they named Metroid. While traveling back to Earth, Space Pirates attacked their spaceship and stole the Metroid. They took it back to the planet Zebes and planned to weaponize the lifeform. The Federation tried to recover the Metroid but failed.

The Federation turned to Samus for help in recovering the Metroid. She successfully recovered the Metroid and destroyed the Space Pirate base after defeating Ridley, Mother Brain, and Kraid.

Metroid II: Return of Samus (Gameboy)

Samus returned to planet SR388 under the orders of the Galactic Federation again to eradicate the dangerous Metroids. She succeeded in her mission and unexpectedly brought back a Metroid hatchling. The Metroid hatchling imprinted on Samus, believing her to be its mother.

Super Metroid (SNES)

Samus gave the Metroid hatchling to the Federation scientists. They hoped to research harnessing the power of the Metroid for the improvement of the galaxy. Unfortunately, the Space Pirates attacked the Federation research center, stole the hatchling, and killed everyone.

Samus tracked the Space Pirates back to planet Zebes where they once more planned to weaponized the Metroid. Samus successfully defeated the Space Pirates and recovered the Metroid hatchling but was soon overpowered by the Mother Brain. When Samus is on the brink of defeat, the young Metroid sacrificed itself to save her. Because of this, Samus successfully defeated the Mother Brain and destroyed planet Zebes for good.

Metroid Fusion (Gameboy Advance)

Samus traveled with a field research team to planet SR888. While assisting them, Samus contracted an unknown parasitic lifeform which knocked her unconscious. This parasitic lifeform was later called X. The X parasite almost kills Samus, but at the last minute she is injected with a vaccine created from metroid DNA, destroying the virus and saving her life.

Samus woke up and learned that an explosion occurred in the Biologic Space Laboratory (BSL) station, where parts of her infected suit were held. The X-Parasite took the form of Samus in her full power (now called SA-X) and was running loose.

Samus, now immune to the X-Parasite, battled through the BSL station and discovered a Metroid-breeding program run by the Federation. She fought with the SA-X and successfully wiped out the X-Parasite, destroying the BSL station and planet SR888 in the process.

Samus Suit Design

From Metroid to Super Metroid

Samus' default suit design remains the same, with minimal change in appearance.

In Metroid Fusion

Samus' suit in Metroid Fusion adopted a more organic appearance because of the X-parasite infection that eroded the original Power Suit and the Metroid vaccine that was administered to stop the parasite attack.

In Metroid Dread

Samus' suit is slowly returning to its original appearance in Metroid Dread, although the color scheme is similar to the suit in Metroid Fusion.
