A free update for Metroid Dread was announced on February 10, 2022 and was released later the same day. The updated introduces a new Dread Mode and Rookie Mode to the game. In addtion, a second free update was also announced in the trailer to be released on April of 2022.

Metroid Dread Review: Is it Worth It?
There is currently no DLC for Metroid Dread, and there has been no announcement that there will be DLC in the future. Though it is unlikely that any DLC would expand on the story of the game, it could add other exciting content.

Despite being the first 2D Metroid Game in 19 years, Metroid Dread concludes a 35-year long story-arc that started with the 1987 Metroid on the NES. This is not the end for Samus Aran though! Learn what's in the future for the universe's Ultimate Warrior.
Is Metroid Dread the Last Metroid Game?
Dread has plenty of new gameplay features that make controlling Samus feel more fluid than ever before. In official gameplay footage, Samus makes use of the following abilities:
The new power-up Spider Magnet allows you to climb on magnetic surfaces, and the Phantom Cloak allows Samus to turn invisible temporarily. For more detailed info on new additions to the gameplay, check out the guide below.
If you have a Nintendo Switch Online subscription, you can upload your data to the cloud to save on storage space. Currently this is the only known online feature of Metroid Dread.

It is unlikely that Metroid Dread will contain any multiplayer modes, as all the 2D mainline Metroid games have never featured multiplayer. No official statement has been made, however, the lengthy official gameplay videos have not shown any signs of multiplayer.

Amiibo figurines for Samus and the iconic E.M.M.I. of Metroid Dread will be available for purchase closer to the games release, although are currently unavailable.

You can pre-load Metroid Dread by downloading it in advance on your Nintendo Switch. Once the game has finished pre-loading, you can start playing the game on its release date from 12:00 AM on October 8, 2021.

A new update is now available for Metroid Dread. Version 1.0.1 was released on October 20, 2021, and fixes a major game-breaking bug in the game. It also fixed other issues that affected gameplay.

Draygon, a boss from Super Metroid, could be hidden in Metroid Dread. A creature found in the background of Dairon bears a resemblance to Draygon, and may be a reference to the boss.
