How to Beat Golzuna: Boss Fight Guide

This is a guide on the boss battle for Golzuna, the mutated Muzby boss in Ghavoran from the game Metroid Dread for the Nintendo Switch. Read on to learn more about Golzuna, how to beat it, and its attack patterns!

Head to the marked spot in Ghavoran to face against Golzuna. You'll have to use the Morph Ball to get through the narrow spaces but you'll soon drop into Golzuna's den.

Key Strategies

Golzuna mutates several times over the course of the battle. Combat begins with Samus versus a seemingly normal Muzby, however after the first mutation, Golzuna will appear to grow larger with more hardened armor. By the third mutation, Golzuna will reach its final form. After defeating Golzuna, you will need to defeat its X-Parasite form.

Target Golzuna's Tail

Due to Golzuna's front-loaded stature, it can be hard to reach its weak point at its posterior. Try to stay behind him at all times by jumping across to the other side.

With his rear-end in clear view, target it with missiles to deal damage.

Slide Under Golzuna

Other than jumping over Golzuna, you also have the option of sliding under it when it raises its claws. Watch for the cue as he raises his claws before running and sliding beneath him to get to the other side. Charge up your Storm Missile, and when you slide under it, you will target its weakpoint several times, dealing heavy damage.

Avoid Cross Bomb Explosions

In his biggest form, Golzuna will begin spawning Cross Bombs to deal damage to Samus. There are three main bomb formations, all of which can be avoided with proper repositioning. Keep in mind that the Cross Bomb sends explosions in 4 different directions.

When the bombs form a rectangle, you may jump in the middle of it to avoid getting hit.

On the other hand, if the bombs for a diagonal line, it'd be best to Flash Shift to the other side of Golzuna as there isn't enough space to safely avoid the explosions.

The last Cross Bomb is a homing Cross Bomb that follows Samus as she moves. Have a listen for the beeping sound when it locks on before moving diagonally away from it to dodge the blast zone.

Avoid Contact with the X-Parasite Form

Just like with Escue, once enough damage has been dealt, Golzuna will transform into its X-Parasite form. Remember, this form will be invulnerable to attacks for a brief time after getting hit once. During this, be sure to avoid contact with it as it will deal damage. Instead, try to absorb the many X Parasites coming out of it to restore your heatlh.

Melee Attacks

Shockwave Slam

As a larger beast, be wary of when Golzuna raises his claws. A shockwave will be sent forward as he slams his claws down. Stay behind him or jump in the air to avoid the shockwave.

Cross Bomb Attacks

Rectangular Cross Bombs

In his biggest form, Golzuna will begin spawning Cross Bombs to deal damage to Samus. When the bombs form a rectangle, you may jump in the middle of it to avoid getting hit.

Diagonal Cross Bombs

In his biggest form, Golzuna will begin spawning Cross Bombs to deal damage to Samus. If the bombs for a diagonal line, it'd be best to Flash Shift to the other side of Golzuna as there isn't enough space to safely avoid the explosions.
