This is a guide on post game content in Metroid Dread. Read on to learn about what happens when you complete the game and whether or not New Game Plus is available.
After completing the game once on normal difficulty, a new Hard Mode difficulty will be unlocked. While nothing will carry over to hard mode, this is a challenging way to experience the game again with tougher enemies.
How to Unlock Hard Mode and Difficulty Changes
Dread Mode is a new difficulty added to the game in the Version 2.0.0 free update released on February 10, 2022. To unlock this difficulty, you first need to beat the game in Hard Mode.
It is currently the hardest difficulty level in the game because you will immediately receive a game over when Samus takes any amount of damage from enemies.
Dread Mode Differences and How to Unlock
After completing the game on any difficulty, you also unlock Boss Rush Mode, which is a game mode where you can fight all 12 bosses in the game, one after another. This feature was added in the Version 2.1.0 free update released on April 8, 2020.
Boss Rush Mode Differences and How to Unlock
There are also two other Rush Modes that can be unlocked in the post game. These are Survival Rush and Dread Rush. Survival Rush is unlocked after completing either Boss Rush or Dread Rush, while Dread Rush is unlocked after beating the game in Dread Mode.
Practice Mode is also unlocked along with Boss Rush Mode. In this mode, you can challenge each boss individually to further improve your skills. To unlock each boss in Practice Mode, you must first reach that point in either Boss Rush or Dread Rush.
Practice Mode Differences and How to Unlock
After the game, players can also work towards 100% completion of their maps, to complete the Chozo Archives in the game's Extras Menu. They can also work towards seeing the different endings the game has to offer by beating the game under a certain amount of time.
How to Unlock All Ending Rewards and Chozo Archives
Metroid Dread does not feature a New Game Plus mode, similar to many other 2D Metroid titles. However, players will be allowed to load in their save file just before the final boss fight to collect items for completion.
