This is a guide on the Grapple Beam, a Beam upgrade in Metroid Dread for the Nintendo Switch. The Grapple Beam is located at the northeastern area of Artaria.
1 | Exit the North save station. Open the door to the right and exit the station. |

2 | Open the Door at the Bottom. Drop down to the bottom until you see a Power Beam Door. Go through and enter the next room. |
3 | Open the Missile Door. Drop down again to see a Missile Door. Shoot it with a Missile to open it up. |
4 | Obtain the upgrade. Destroy the item sphere and grab the upgrade. |
You can get the Grapple Beam as early as after defeating Kraid and getting the Diffusion Beam or even before that!
1 | Take the Purple Teleporter from Cataris to Dairon. You can find the purple teleporter just above the hallway after you get the Diffusion Beam. |

Head to the location above. Destroy the Beam Block and Alien Block. This room will also contain an Energy Part. |
3 | Get across the lava. To pull off this sequence break, you will need to perform a slide jump followed by a wall jump to safely reach the platform. Next, you will need to do one more slide jump to grab the ledge. Continue going right and take the elevator to Artaria. |
4 | Obtain the upgrade. After arriving back in Artaria, continue down and to the right until you reach a Missile Door. Enter to find the Grapple Beam. |
The Grapple Beam allows Samus to cling on the unreachable blue magnetic surfaces.
Certain doors can only be opened using the Grapple Beam. They are indicated by a blue triangle shape on the door.
Samus can attach her Grapple Beam onto some objects in her surroundings. After grappling these objects, she can pull on them to move them to a different spot and open up hidden areas.
After obtaining the Grapple Beam Upgrade, you can head north and ride the elevator to Dairon. Once you reach Dairon, continue traveling north and use the Grapple Beam to remove the Grapple Beam Block and head to the elevator to Ferenia.
Step-By-Step Walkthrough | |

1 | Use the Grapple Beam to Reach the Blue Magnetic Strips Once you have obtained the Grapple Beam, you can travel north using the blue magnetic strips. This path leads to an elevator to Dairon. Ride the elevator and proceed to the next step. |
2 | Head North to the Elevator to Ferenia After reaching Darion, take the Morph Ball Launcher on the right side of the room and continue north towards the elevator to Ferenia. Use your newly acquired Grapple Beam to pull the Grapple Beam Box out of your way. |
3 | Ride the Elevator and Encounter the Purple EMMI Ride the elevator to Ferenia where you will first encounter the Purple EMMI and progress through the story. |
4 | Return to Dairon and then and make your way to Ghavoran through the new path Quiet Robe opened up in Burenia to fight a Robot Chozo Soldier
Ride the left Dairon - Ferenia elevator to return to Dairon, then head left back to Burenia. Run Through the wind with Speed Booster, then continue upwards to Ghavoran to fight a Robot Chozo Soldier. |

Pick up the Super Missile upgrade from this room
After defeating the mini-boss, progress normally and you can find the Super Missile upgrade in this location. You will need to bomb a wall to drop down to this room. |
