This is a guide to all the beam upgrades for Metroid Dread on the Nintendo Switch. Read on to learn more about each of the beams Samus can obtain, where to find her beam upgrades, and how to use them.

Power Beam

The Power Beam is the default beam initially equipped to the Power Suit.

Charge Beam

The Charge Beam is the first obtainable Beam upgrade in the game and can be found inside a hidden room in Artaria.

From the Energy Recharge Station at the lower area of Artaria, go left and slide down the narrow passage below the Power Beam Door that leads to the extreme cold area. Open up the Missile Door and slide down another narrow passage to the left to reach the Charge Beam item sphere room.

Wide Beam

Location Dairon

The Wide Beam allows Samus to fire three shots simultaneously from her cannon, covering a wider area of attack.

Activate the generator located in the central area of Dairon to power up all the doors and stations. Once everything is powered up, travel right until you find a Missile Door. Open up the door to enter the WIde Beam item sphere room.

Grapple Beam

With the Grapple Beam, Samus can attach to and swing from Grapple Points located on some walls and ceilings.

From the elevator to Dairon, drop down till you find a Power Beam Door. Open it up to find a Missile Door Door inside. Shoot it with a Missile and enter the Grapple Beam item sphere room.

Diffusion Beam

With the Diffusion Beam, Samus can now attack enemies through walls.

After beating Kraid, climb up the blue magnetic surfaces and enter a narrow passage. Traverse the narrow path until you enter a wider area with a Missle Door. Open up the Missile Door to reach the Diffusion Beam item sphere room.

Plasma Beam

The Plasma Beam can damage robotic enemies even without charging. This beam can also pierce through multiple enemies.

After you encounter the X-Parasite, travel to the bottom of the area and open up the Power Beam Door. Continue going down unitl you reach the bottom of the room with another X-Parasite. After defeating it, shoot an opening above the dead-end and enter the narrow passage. Use the Morph Ball Launcher to travel to the other side of the room where you will find a Missile Door. Open it up to enter the Plasma Beam item sphere room.

Wave Beam

Wave Beam allows Samus to shoot through solid objects and terrain. This beam can also shoot organic obstacles through walls.

Wave Beam upgrade can be obtained by defeating the Purple EMMI.

How to Use the Wave Beam

Omega Cannon

Metroid Dread - Central Unit Map Image

With the Omega Cannon, Samus can overcome the defenses of the EMMI and Central Unit Cores.

The Omega Cannon can be obtain after defeating Central Units. Each area has one Central Unit Area where a certain EMMI is designated.

Hyper Beam

The Hyper Beam is the most powerful beam that Samus will acquire during the final battle, along with the Metroid Suit. It is only useable for the last part of the game.
