This is an article about the Chozo from the game Metroid Dread for the Nintendo Switch. Learn more about their overview, their backstory, and their role in Metroid Dread!
List of Contents
Once a powerful and intelligent race capable of creating advanced technologies, a mysterious circumstance caused their downfall and forced the remaining species into hiding.
The Chozo also adopted and raised Samus after she lost her parents at a young age, and gave her a transplant of Chozo DNA to help her survive the harsh environment of the planet.
Samus arrives at planet ZDR and encounters a Chozo warrior who suddenly attacks Samus with an Arm Cannon similar to hers. Despite wearing the armor of the Chozo, this mysterious warrior doesn't hestitate in its attack. What could be the reason for its attack on Samus?
Samus also faces off with Robot Chozo soldiers, which are the products of advanced Chozo technology. They are powerful forces, armed with electromagnetic blades and Arm Cannons and are capable of high-speed movements.

Not much was known or seen about the Chozo race in the previous games. Their presence, however, can be felt through the Chozo Statues. The Chozo built these statues to observe the inhabitants of the planet.
Chozo Statues often guide Samus in her past missions by offering new upgrades for her armor and weapons, navigating through new areas, and indicating notable locations.
One of the artifacts that Samus encountered in her past missions is the Chozo Memories, which narrated bits of the history of the Chozo civilization. In one of the memories, we see a figure who bears a striking resemblance to the Chozo warrior that attacked Samus on planet ZDR.

The Chozo encountered the X-Parasite, which they deemed a threat because of its ability to take over an organic creature and mimics its actions. |
|
Because of their first encounter with the X-Parasite and the danger it posed, the Chozo artificially developed the Metroid to combat the deadly X-Parasites. |
