This is a guide on the overall story and plot of Metroid Dread for the Nintendo Switch. Read on to learn more about Samus Aran's mission to planet ZDR and what secrets she uncovers there.
List of Contents
Metroid Dread takes place after the events of Metroid Fusion. Upon receiving a distressing video of an X-Parasite running loose in planet ZDR, the Galactic Federation dispatches seven EMMI robots to investigate the matter, but they lose contact with the EMMI after they land on the planet.
As the only one immune to the X-Parasite, Samus Aran is sent to planet ZDR to investigate the origin of the video and the disappearance of the EMMI robots.
After landing on the planet, Samus takes an elevator leading to an underground facilty. While riding the elevator, Samus loses contact with ADAM, who advises her to connect with the facility's network and reestablish a connection. This is the last time we hear from the real ADAM AI until the end of the game.
Samus arrives at the underground facility and meets a mysterious Chozo warrior who suddenly attacks her. A fierce battle between Samus and the mysterious warrior ensues but Samus' attacks are futile against the warrior. She is quickly overpowered and falls unconscious.
Samus eventually wakes up and the mysterious warrior is nowhere to be seen. She locates the nearest Network Station where she reestablishes her connection with ADAM. ADAM informs Samus that she has suffered from physical amnesia due to the attack. She begins the journey to return to her ship on the surface.
Samus starts exploring the planet to find a way back to the surface and her ship. While investigating the planet, Samus encounters the EMMI robots, who now hunt her down when she enters their zones. They must be defeated using the Omega Cannon in order to progress and reach the surface.
Along the way, Samus meets Quiet Robe, the last living member of the Thoha clan from the Chozo race. Quiet Robe reveals to her that the EMMI robots are now controlled by the mysterious Chozo warrior who attacked her upon landing, a member of the Mawkin warrior race of Chozo named Raven Beak. He plans to extract the Metroid DNA from Samus and harvest the power of the Metroid to take over the galaxy.
Quiet Robe deactivates the remaining EMMI robots to help Samus but he is killed by a Robot Chozo Soldier. His corpse is then taken over by an X-Parasite and he reactivates the Blue EMMI.
Samus inadvertently releases the sealed off X-Parasites into the planet, where they quickly take over all living organisms. Planet ZDR is now infested with the X.
As the X-Parasite run loose in planet ZDR, Samus starts to slowly awaken to her Metroid DNA. She is now able to defeat adversaries with just a touch of her hand, including the final EMMI.
After finally reaching the planet's surface, Samus takes a small shuttle to Raven Beak's ship in the sky, Itorash. Here she faces off with Raven Beak, who is revealed to have been posing as ADAM all this time. Raven Beak also reveals that he was the Mawkin DNA donor of Samus, and even refers to her as his daughter. He orders Samus to fulfill her destiny and to let him extract the Metroid DNA from her so he can weaponize the Metroid and conquer the galaxy. After Samus refuses, Raven Beak states that he simply need to kill her and clone her using the X-Parasites.
Despite almost being defeated again, the Metroid DNA in Samus fully awakens at the last moment, leading Samus to begin absorbing both Raven Beak's energy along with his ships. The ship crashes back down onto planet ZDR, and the awakened DNA reveals the Metroid Suit. Samus also appears to have absorbed the Hyper Beam from Raven Beak.
Raven Beak refuses to accept defeat and turns to face Samus again but is taken over by an X-Parasite which transforms him to Raven Beak X. Samus, now armed with the Hyper Beam, destroys Raven Beak X and escapes to her ship before the planet explodes.
Back at her ship, Samus attempts to take off, but is warned by ADAM that her Metroid form will absorb anything she touches, including the ship's energy. While she is contemplating on what to do, Quiet Robe X appears behind her and allows himself to be absorbed by Samus in order to revert back to her regular form. She quickly starts up her ship and escapes the planet before it finally explodes, thus ending another mission successfully.
