You need to learn all five steal skills from the Thief job, including Steal Weapon and Steal Accessory. You need to gain a total of 2250 JP as a thief to learn all of the skills, so make sure to grind some JP as a Thief before fighting Elmdore!

| Adamant Vest | Brawler | ||
| Battle Boots | Move +3 | ||
The Ninja's higher natural Speed means you have more chances to steal the Genji Equipment from Elmdore, while equipping the Brawler action ability increases the effectiveness of your Steal skills.
Finally, we recommend using a Male unit so that you can learn Move +3 from Bard, which will make reaching Elmdore easier.

You should also have a unit with the skill Rend Speed to lower Elmdore's Speed, which increases your turns and chances to steal his equipment. Mustadio in his Machinist job and equipped with the Arts of War ability can fill this role as he can safely inflict Speed Break from range thanks to his guns.
| Unit | Rec. Ability | Job |
|---|---|---|
Ramza |
Tailwind
|
Gallant Knight
|
Beowulf |
Chicken
|
Templar
|
Ramza's main role during the fight with Elmdore is using Tailwind on the dedicated stealer to further increase their speed and chances to steal the Genji Equipment.
Beowulf on the other hand should use Chicken to constantly lower Elmdore's Bravery to weaken Elmdore's Shirahadori ability. Shirahadori lowers the Steal percentages, making it very difficult to acquire his equipment!
How to Recruit Beowulf and Overview
| 1 | Defeat Celia and Lettie in both their human and Ultima Demon forms. |
|---|---|
| 2 | Once Elmdore is alone, run up to him using your Ninja and attempt to steal the gear from behind him. |
| 3 | In between stealing attempts, have Mustadio or a Chemist use Rend Speed to lower his speed. Beowulf should use Chicken on Elmdore, while Ramza should use Tailwind on the Ninja. |
| 4 | Repeat steps 2 and 3 until you've stolen all of the Genji Equipment. |
Once you're done with the preparations, you can now fight Elmdore in Limberry Castle. Start by quickly dispatching both Celia and Lettie as they can inflict Stop or instant KO with their Assassin abilities. They'll eventually transform into stronger Ultima Demons, so focus all of your attacks on them.
When Elmdore is finally alone, use your Ninja to run up behind him and attempt to steal a piece of Genji equipment. In between stealing attempts, Mustadio or a Chemist should use Rend Speed on him, while Beowulf uses Chicken to lower his Bravery.
Finally, Ramza should focus on buffing the Ninja using Tailwind to increase the number of turns and chances of stealing Elmdore's equipment.
Having a White Mage to provide burst healing is also good to have during this fight, and Beowulf should have the Items job command as his secondary so he can use X-Potions or Phoenix Downs in an emergency.
You can steal Genji Equipment from Marquis Elmdore when you face him in Chapter 4. The battle against Elmdore takes place in Limberry Castle Keep.
Chapter 4: In the Name of Love Walkthrough
If you are playing on Classic Mode, you will not be able to steal Genji Equipment from Elmdore during the battle at Limberry Castle Keep. This is in line with the War of the Lions version of the game.
