Knight's Swords and Guns are the best weapon types in the game.
Knight's Swords have the highest damage among the weapons and often have effects, making them arguably the best weapon overall.
Meanwhile, Guns have the longest flat weapon range, 100% hit accuracy that isn't affected by weather, and the highest attack power among the ranged weapons.
| Criteria | |
|---|---|
| Weapon Power | Weapon power directly scales damage dealt. In end-game scenarios, this stat becomes a key factor in overall combat efficiency. |
| Effects | Weapon types that have a lot of weapons with effects on them tend to be better even if their attack power isn't very high. |
| Versatility | Weapon types that have plenty of compatible jobs are more accessible, allowing for better party composition. |

|
Knight's Sword |
Best Overall Weapon |
|---|---|
| Knight's Swords are by far the best overall weapon type in the game. Although they're quite hard to find, they have significantly higher damage compared to the rest and often have effects imbued to them, making them extremely powerful. | |
|
Gun |
Best Ranged Weapon |
|
・
|
|
| Guns are the best ranged weapon type. They have the longest flat weapon range and have 100% hit accuracy that isn't affected by weather, allowing gun-wielding units to take less movements and hit targets from afar. However, their downside is that unlike Bows, they can't hit over obstacles and must have a clear line of sight. | |
|
Rod |
Best for Spellcasters |
|---|---|
| Rods are the best weapon type for spellcasters but particularly the ones that are imbued with an effect. Although their damage is poor, the effects imbued onto some Rods are more important and improve the potency of magick spells cast. | |
|
Staff |
Alternative for Spellcasters |
| Staves are great alternative weapons for spellcasters if Rods are not available. They deal more damage when using the Attack command, but generally, Rods have better effects imbued onto them. | |
|
Sword |
Best General-Use Weapon |
|
・
|
|
| Swords are the best weapon type for general use, especially in the early game. They are the most accessible and versatile weapon since they can be equipped by a lot of Jobs, and some Swords are imbued with additional effects like Rods. However, they start to fall off as soon as Knight's Swords become available in the later stages of the story. |
|
| Bare-Handed or Fists |
Great for High-Bravery and Physical Attack Units |
| Although not a weapon type, fighting bare-handed or with fists can actually deal high damage when the unit has high Bravery and Physical Attack, especially Monks. | |
|
Polearm |
Best Weapon for Dragoons |
| Polearms are the best weapon for Dragoons due to their ability to hit up to two spaces away and their improved damage output when using the Jump job command. | |
|
Bow |
Conditional Ranged Weapon |
|---|---|
| Bows are decent ranged weapons but only with certain conditions. They deal adequate damage, can hit targets behind obstacles, and their range can improve if the wielder is at a high ground. However, their accuracy is negatively affected by natural factors like Rain and Night time, making their usefulness inconsistent per battle. |
|
|
Ninja Blade |
Niche Weapon with Decent Damage |
| Ninja Blades are decent melee weapons but are incredibly niche. They deal adequate damage but can only be equipped by Ninjas and only a few Ninja Blades are imbued with additional effects. They are also quite expensive and only available later in the game. | |
|
Katana |
Niche Weapon with Decent Damage |
|
・ ・
|
|
| Much like Ninja Blades, Katanas are also decent melee weapons but are incredibly niche. They deal adequate damage but can only be equipped by Samurais. | |
|
Pole Crossbow |
Awful Damage and Niche |
|---|---|
| These are generally bad weapons. They deal minimal damage and can only be equipped by a few job types, which aren't that good neither. | |
|
Dagger Bag Book |
Outclassed by Others |
| Although there are great jobs that can equip Bags, Books, or Daggers, these weapon types are outclassed by other better options, such as Knight's Sword for Knights, and Rods for Mystics. | |
|
Axe Flail |
Misleading Damage |
| Axes and Flails are misleading weapon types due to the fact that the actual damage you deal is different that what is stated in the weapon's preview. Each attack could deal higher or lower damage, and their unreliability makes them inferior compared to other options. | |
|
Cloth Instrument |
Exclusive Weapons |
| Cloths and Instruments are weapons exclusive to Dancers and Bards, which are jobs that are generally not good. |
