These parties are structured to minimize required investment in gear and JP. |

Ramza Monk |

Monk

Action/Command: ・Martial Arts ・Item Support: JP Boost |
Black Mage
|
Action/Command: ・Black Magick ・Item Support: JP Boost |
White Mage
|
Action/Command: ・White Magick ・Item Support: JP Boost |
Use Monks as your front-line attackers. They have excellent, hard-hitting abilities and weapons that require no gil to purchase. Ramza can use Mettle abilities like Tailwind to support the team, or Items as a healing solution.
Your backup will be two Mages to sling spells and heal. Since we will target learning Arithmeticks, both Black Mages and White Mages need development.
That said, don't grind unnecessarily just to unlock Arithmetician early. The class does not come into its own until you receive some specialized gear from Chapter 3 onwards, so take your time.
Chapter 1: The Meager Walkthrough
| Job | Recommended Abilities |
|---|---|
Black Mage
|
・Thunder ・Thundara |
White Mage
|
・Cure ・Cura |
Monk
|
・Aurablast ・Shockwave ・Chakra ・Brawler |
Monks can handle both ranged and melee attacks using skills like Aurablast and Shockwave, as well as do backup healing with Chakra, making them highly versatile.
Meanwhile, the large number of rainy battle stages in Chapter 1 makes Thunder magic particularly powerful, enhancing the effects of Black Magick.
| Job | Job Progression (inc. Ramza) |
|---|---|
Black Mage
White Mage
|
Squire (learn JP Boost) ↓ Chemist ↓ Black Mage or White Mage |
Monk
|
Squire (learn JP Boost) ↓ Knight ↓ Monk |
Though most Mages will begin their careers as Chemists, it's worthwhile to take a detour through Squire to learn the JP Boost skill, which will increase their JP intake on any Job they have equipped.

One of the most valuable early game abilities is JP Boost, and you should make sure everyone in your main party learns it during Chapter 1. JP Boost will make a major difference in the speed at which you can master Jobs and unlock new abilities without spending as much time farming JP.
| Character (Job) | Recommended Build |
|---|---|
Ramza Ninja |
Action/Command: ・Throw ・Mettle or Martial Arts Reaction: Reflexes Support: JP Boost Movement: Movement +2 |
Agrias Knight |
Action/Command: ・Arts of War ・Holy Sword Reaction: Auto-Potion Support: JP Boost Movement: Movement +1 |
Mustadio Chemist |
Action/Command ・Item ・Aimed Shot Reaction: Auto-Potion Support: JP Boost Movement: Movement +1 |
Ninja
|
Action/Command ・Throw ・Martial Arts Reaction: Reflexes Support: JP Boost Movement: Movement +2 |
Summoner
|
Action/Command: ・Summon ・White Magick Support: JP Boost Movement: Movement +1 |
If you don't need JP Boost for your Ninjas, we recommend equipping Brawler from the Monk to create a Ninja that uses unarmed attacks. With the Ninja's innate Dual Wield ability, the double attacks can do 100~150 damage per turn, enough to defeat an enemy in one action.
You can also swap Mustadio with a second Summoner for maximum offensive magic power.
Chapter 2: The Manipulator and the Subservient Walkthrough
| Character (Job) | Recommended Abilities |
|---|---|
Ramza Ninja |
・Throw Shuriken ・Steel ・Reflexes ・Dual Wield |
Agrias Knight |
・Divine Ruination ・Rend Weapon ・Rend Power ・Equip Swords |
Mustadio Chemist |
・Seal Evil ・Hi-Potion ・Phoenix Down ・Treasure Hunter |
Ninja
|
・Throw Shuriken ・Reflexes ・Dual Wield |
Summoner
|
・Ramuh ・Leviathan ・Moogle ・Golem |
Ninjas have high mobility but can be vulnerable to taking damage. Make them resilient against physical attacks by having your Summoner learn and use the Golem summon, which greatly reduces physical damage.
| Character (Job) | Job Progression |
|---|---|
Ramza Ninja |
Squire (learn Steel) ↓ Archer (to LV4) ↓ Thief (to LV5) ↓ Geomancer (to LV2) ↓ Ninja |
Agrias Knight |
Holy Knight (learn Divine Ruination) ↓ Chemist (learn Auto-Potion) ↓ Knight |
Mustadio Chemist |
Job change to Chemist |
Ninja
|
Archer (to LV4) ↓ Thief (to LV5) ↓ Geomancer (to LV2) ↓ Ninja |
Summoner
|
Time Mage (to LV4) ↓ Summoner |
From Chapter 2 onwards, battles will become more difficult and JP requirements for your team will increase. If you encounter difficulty, farm JP to meet your progression needs, or consider turning down the difficulty settings.
| Character (Job) | Recommended Build |
|---|---|
Ramza Ninja |
Action/Command: ・Throw ・Mettle or Martial Arts Reaction: Shirahadori Support: JP Boost or Brawler Movement: Movement +2 |
Agrias Samurai |
Action/Command: ・Iaido ・Holy Sword Reaction: Shirahadori Support: JP Boost or Equip Swords Movement: Movement +2 |
Mustadio Machinist |
Action/Command: ・Aim ・Aimed Shot Reaction: Auto-Potion Support: JP Boost Movement: Movement +1 |
Ninja
|
Action/Command: ・Throw ・Martial Arts Reaction: Shirahadori Support: JP Boost or Brawler Movement: Movement +2 |
Summoner
|
Action/Command: ・Summon ・White Magick or Arithmeticks Support: JP Boost Movement: Movement +1 |
If you wish to increase Mustadio's debuffing ability, consider making him an Orator. Buff your melee comrades by using Ramza's Steel repeatedly, as a portion of the temporary boost to Bravery is permanent.
Make sure Agrias uses Equip Swords even while she's a Samurai, so she can continue to use her Holy Sword skills at the same time as using Iaido.
How to Increase or Decrease Bravery
| Character (Job) | Recommended Abilities |
|---|---|
Ramza Ninja |
・Shirahadori |
Agrias Samurai |
・Shirahadori |
Mustadio Machinist |
・Aim +3 ・Aim+7 ・Aim +10 |
Ninja
|
・Shirahadori |
Summoner
|
・All Arithmeticks Action Abilities ・Sylph ・Holy ・Flare ・Raise ※Other high-level spells from Black Magick, White Magick, Time Magick, and Mystic Arts for use with Arithmeticks. |
Shirahadori is the most powerful Reaction Ability available to melee characters, making them almost immune to many attacks.
Meanwhile, Summoners should take advantage of Arithmeticks to vastly expand the range and potency of their magick.
| Character (Job) | Job Progression |
|---|---|
Ramza Ninja |
Monk (to LV5) ↓ Dragoon (to LV2) ↓ Samurai (learn Shirahadori) ↓ Ninja |
Agrias Samurai |
Archer (to LV3) ↓ Thief (to LV4) ↓ Monk (to LV5) ↓ Dragoon (to LV2) ↓ Samurai (learn Shirahadori) |
Mustadio Machinist |
Archer (learn Aim skills) ↓ Machinist ※Consider learning Movement +2 from Thief |
Ninja
|
Monk (to LV5) ↓ Dragoon (to LV2) ↓ Samurai (learn Shirahadori) ↓ Ninja |
Summoner
|
Black Mage (to LV5) ↓ White Mage (to LV 5) ↓ Time Mage (to LV4) ↓ Mystic (to LV4) ↓ Arithmetician (learn Action Abilities) ↓ Summoner |
In Chapter 3 you'll have room to continue expanding the options available to your core team.
Adding Iaido to Agrias' kit allows her to use some powerful Samurai spells while still wielding Holy Sword attacks. Iaido does not require a katana to be equipped, just present in the inventory.
| Character (Job) | Recommended Build |
|---|---|
Ramza Gallant Knight |
Action/Command: ・Mettle ・Flex Slot Reaction: Shirahadori Support: Dual Wield Movement: Movement +2 |
Agrias Holy Knight |
Action/Command ・Holy Sword ・Flex Slot (Recovery Abilities preferred) Reaction: Shirahadori Support: Attack Boost Movement: Movement +2 |
Orlandeau Sword Saint |
Action/Command ・Swordplay ・Item Reaction: Counter Support: JP Boost Movement: Movement +1 |
Meliadoul Divine Knight |
Action/Command ・Unyielding Blade ・Dance Reaction: Counter Support: Attack Boost Movement: Movement +2 |
Black Mage
|
Action/Command ・Black Magick ・Arithmeticks Support: Magick Boost Movement: Movement +1 |
In Chapter 4 unique characters like Thunder God Cid will outclass most of your generic units, so they'll take up most of the slots in the party. Here, the Black Mage will support from a distance with powerful spells and Arithmeticks.
If you'd like to use generic characters instead, consider other Flex Recommendations to replace Meliadoul based on your needs.
| Character (Job) | Job Progression |
|---|---|
Ramza Gallant Knight |
Change to Gallant Knight after acquiring all desired abilities. |
Agrias Holy Knight |
Geomancer (learn Attack Boost) ※If you don't need specific subskills, other Jobs have higher stat growth rates than Holy Knight. ・Phys. DPS ➡ Knight or Dragoon ・Balanced Speed/Phys. DPS ➡ Ninja |
Orlandeau Sword Saint |
Geomancer (learn Attack Boost) |
Meliadoul Divine Knight |
Spend time as Dancer to acquire favored dances and combine with Unyielding Blade. |
Black Mage
|
Obtain powerful spells from other spellcasting Jobs: ・Curaga ・Raise ・Reraise ・Holy ・Haste ・Toad |
To improve Cid and Meliadoul, also consider taking them through Samurai to obtain Shirahadori.
Unyielding Blade's power is reduced against monsters or enemies with no equipment, so give her the ability to Dance to keep up her effectiveness in battles with many such foes.
| Character (Job) | Recommended Build |
|---|---|
Beowulf Templar |
Action/Command: ・Spellblade ・Item Reaction: Parry Support: Magick Defense Boost Movement: Movement +3 |
Reis Dragonkin |
Action/Command: ・Dragon ・Item Reaction: Dragonheart Support: Brawler Movement: Movement +2 |
Black Mage
Ninja
|
Any generic unit you've built up until now that aligns with your preferences. Dual-Wield Brawler Ninjas or high-level Black Mages with Arithmeticks and Holy can be very powerful. ▶Best Builds |
Rapha Skyseer |
Movement: Treasure Hunter You can also use a flex slot for a treasure-hunting unit with very low Bravery. Rapha starts with a Bravery value of around 30, making her an ideal candidate to dedicate to treasure-hunting. |
These characters are just a few potential options to use for your endgame party's flex slots.
Beowulf's Spellblade abilities can inflict powerful debuffs, and Reis has excellent stat growth and innate Beastmaster, making her a strong monster tamer.
