How to Farm JP (Job Points)

How to Farm JP (Job Points)
The Focus Farming Method allows you to farm JP fast in Final Fantasy Tactics - The Ivalice Chronicles. Learn how to farm JP using the Focus Farm Method, as well as the best party setups and gear for JP farming here!

How to Farm JP

Focus Farm Method

1 Equip Ramza and your JP Farmers JP Boost or the Ring of Aptitude if you have the Deluxe Edition.

Note: JP Boost and Ring of Aptitude do not stack.
▶ Focus Farm Party Setup
2 Kill all enemies on the field except one.
3 Have your Knight use Rend Speed to lower the last enemy's Speed to 1.
4 When Ramza's turn starts, use Tailwind on himself and the JP Farmers to boost Speed and grant more turns.
5 Use Focus when a JP Farmer's turn starts to earn JP.

This method involves spamming the Focus job command whenever your JP Farmer's turn starts to earn JP. As Ramza is boosting everyone's Speed with Tailwind, your JP Farmers will have more turns and allow you to constantly spam Focus.

You'll need to make sure to leave one enemy on the field and lower their speed with Rend Speed until 1 to ensure your party is getting as many turns possible to spam Focus. Once at 1 Speed, your Knight will simply kite the remaining enemy so that they don't go after the rest of your team.

No EXP Focus Farm Method

1 Equip Ramza and your JP Farmers JP Boost or the Ring of Aptitude if you have the Deluxe Edition.

Note: JP Boost and Ring of Aptitude do not stack.
▶ Focus Farm No EXP Party Setup
2 Recruit a random unit and change their job to a Thief to learn Steal EXP.
3 Change the Thief's job to Monk with Steal secondary. The Monk's innate Brawler increases the steal rate, making it easier to steal EXP from his/her allies.
4 Kill all enemies on the field except one. The Monk can help clear the enemies using Shockwave.
5 Have your Knight use Rend Speed to lower the last enemy's Speed to 1.
6 When Ramza's turn starts, use Tailwind on himself, the Monk, and the JP Farmers to boost Speed and grant more turns.
7 Use Focus when a JP Farmer's turn starts to earn JP. Each cast of Focus earns 10 EXP.
8 Have the Monk use Steal EXP on a JP Farmer when they are close to leveling up. Keep stealing EXP to ensure the JP Farmer only earns JP.
9 Once the JP Farming is done, dismiss the Monk to ensure enemy monsters from random encounters don't outlevel your units.

This method is similar to the previous Focus Farm method, except you'll have a Monk that uses Steal EXP on your JP Farmers to prevent them from earning EXP and leveling up.

Each cast of Focus earns 10 EXP, and you'll need to pay attention to each of your JP Farmers so that you can use Steal EXP in time before they level up.

Once you're happy with the amount of JP you've earned, unequip everything from your Monk and dismiss them from your party to ensure enemy monsters don't outlevel your units!

How to Recruit and Dismiss Units

Best JP Farming Abilities and Items

Learn JP Boost from Squire

The JP Boost support ability from the Squire job should be the first ability as it increases the amount of JP (Job Points) and Job EXP a unit earns when performing actions in battle.

It costs 250 JP to learn and should always be equipped on the unit you're trying to power level and farm Job Points!

JP Boost Ability Effects and JP Cost

Learn Focus from Squire

Focus should be the next skill you should learn as a Squire. It increases the physical attack of the unit, and since it's a buff, it always earns exp when a unit uses it!

This allows your units to earn JP and Job EXP when ending a turn far from enemies instead of using the Wait command.

Focus Ability Effects and JP Cost

Learn Potion from Chemist

Another good skill to learn is the Potion action ability from the Chemist job to prolong the fight against enemies in random battles.

A unit always earns exp when the potion recovers HP for the target so you can use this ability instead of waiting when a unit is too far from enemies or allies!

Potion Ability Effects and JP Cost

Chakra from Monk is a Good Alternative to Potion

Alternatively, you can learn the Chakra action ability from the Monk job which restores HP and MP to the unit and an adjacent ally. Chakra doesn't use MP and has a stronger heal compared to Potion, while also ensuring that you don't have to keep buying Potions from the Outfitter.

Similar to other healing actions and spells, Chakra needs to recover HP for the target for the unit to earn JP and Job EXP!

Ring of Aptitude from the Deluxe Edition

The Ring of Aptitude is an item obtained from pre-ordering the game and offers the same effect as JP Boost but worn in the unit's Accessory slot.

It's a good alternative to JP Boost if you haven't learned it yet, or if you want to equip other Support Abilities on your unit while still getting increased JP and Job EXP. JP Boost and Ring of Aptitude do not stack, so make sure to only equip one of them to avoid wasting an equipment or ability slot!

JP Farming Best Party Setup

Thief's Cap
Ring of Aptitude (Optional)
Knight Arts of War
Move +3 (Optional)
Excalibur (Optional)

All of your JP Farmers need to have the JP Boost support ability to get as much JP per cast of Focus. If you have the Deluxe Edition, you can instead equip the Ring of Aptitude if the unit doesn't have JP Boost unlocked yet. Keep in mind that JP Boost and Ring of Aptitude do not stack!

All units should also have speed-boosting equipment to ensure they get more turns. Have Ramza and all of your JP Farmers equip Thief's Cap, while your Knight should have Excalibur.

The Akademy Blade from the Deluxe Edition also boosts Speed when equipped and should ideally be equipped to Ramza so that he can start boosting everyone with Tailwind as soon a possible.

The random unit you recruited should have Monk as their primary Job and have the Steal from Thief equipped. The Brawler Support Ability is required for this setup as it also boosts the success rate of Steal EXP.

This party setup is otherwise identical to regular Focus Farm Party. Make sure to unequip any gear from the Monk when it's time to dismiss them from the party.

Another way of doing this later on, is having any character that can reduce the enemy's bravery down to where they become a chicken, and then corner them. Then you don't have to worry about their speed OR getting attacked.
