Final Fantasy Tactics - Easter Eggs and Secrets

Final Fantasy Tactics includes several Easter Eggs and hidden references that may not be immediately obvious. Here's a list of all the secrets and nods to other Final Fantasy titles that can be found in the game.

All Easter Eggs and Secrets in Final Fantasy Tactics

  1. Cloud Strife
  2. Aerith
  3. Sephiroth Reference
  4. The Lucavi and the Espers
  5. The Wonders Collection
  6. Zodiark

Cloud Strife

Cloud Strife from Final Fantasy VII appears as a secret, recruitable character, but unlocking him requires a specific sequence of events.

Aerith

During the event that leads to Cloud’s arrival in Ivalice, a flower girl appears in Trade City of Sal Ghidos and offers to sell you a flower. While she is never explicitly named, her appearance and role are widely considered a reference to Aerith from Final Fantasy VII.

This brief encounter is not only a nod to her iconic introduction in the original game, but also a subtle tie-in to Cloud’s storyline within Final Fantasy Tactics.

Sephiroth Reference

Marquis Messam Elmdore, one of the more prominent characters in Final Fantasy Tactics, bears a strong visual resemblance to Sephiroth from Final Fantasy VII.

With his long silver hair, elegant black attire and katana, Elmdore’s design is widely seen as a deliberate homage to Sephiroth.

The Lucavi and the Espers

The Lucavi demons that serve as major antagonists throughout Final Fantasy Tactics are the same group of Espers from Final Fantasy XII, now attempting to possess humans through the use of Auracite in order to manifest their true power in Ivalice.

Both games are part of the shared Ivalice Alliance setting, with the Espers from Final Fantasy XII being modeled after the Lucavi though in-universe, Tactics takes place several thousand years after the events of Final Fantasy XII.

The Wonders Collection

The Wonders are a set of mysterious artifacts and locations that can be discovered by sending units on specific Errands. Once found, they are catalogued in the in-game encyclopedia and provide extra lore tied to the world of Ivalice.

Many of these Wonders reference iconic places and items from earlier Final Fantasy titles, particularly those from Final Fantasy I through VI. For longtime fans, these entries act as subtle callbacks to classic locations, such as the Floating Castle or Mirage Tower.

Zodiark

Zodiark is the most powerful Summon in Final Fantasy Tactics, and one of the game's most well-hidden secrets. It is cast exclusively by Elidibus, an optional boss encountered on the final floor of the Midlight's Deep.

The Zodiark in Final Fantasy Tactics is also a Lucavi, which means he is the same Esper from Final Fantasy XII. Much like the other Lucavi though, they are the inspirations for the Espers in Final Fantasy XII as Tactics was released first.
