All Missables and Points of No Return
This page lists all of the missables and points of no return in Final Fantasy Tactics - The Ivalice Chronicles. See a list of all the missable characters and events, as well as a list of all the points of no return here.

List of Missables

  1. Alicia, Lavian, and Ladd
  2. Boco
  3. Cloud Strife
  4. Byblos
  5. Ramza's Zodiac Sign

Alicia, Lavian, and Ladd

You will be able to recruit the characters Alicia, Lavian, and Ladd at the start of Chapter 2. Unlike other recruitable characters, their names are not random and they are implied to be the same two Knights and Squire that you battle alongside during the game's prologue.

The three characters are no different from other generic units that you can recruit, but you can't recruit them again later if you decide to not recruit them or dismiss them from your party, or if you let them crystalize when they die in battle!

Boco

Boco is a recruitable named Chocobo that your party needs to save from monsters in Araguay Woods in Chapter 2. You'll need to keep Boco alive for him to join your party after the battle!

First encountered in Chapter 1 as Wiegraf Folles' mount, he abandons the Chocobo shortly after his defeat and will appear in Araguay Woods in Chapter 2.

How to Recruit Boco and Overview

Cloud Strife

Cloud

Cloud Strife is a potentially missable character if you fail to buy a flower from the flower girl you encounter in Trade City of Sal Ghidos. Cloud will not appear to save the flower girl if you didn't buy a flower from her for 1 Gil.

How to Recruit Cloud and Overview

Byblos

Byblos

Byblos is a special Reaver monster that joins your party as a guest when you reach Elidibus in Midlight's Deep and will offer to join your party after defeating the superboss.

You will not be able to recruit Byblos if he dies during the battle, which means you need to help keep him alive during the battle if you want to recruit this special monster.

How to Recruit Byblos and Overview

Ramza's Zodiac Sign

Enter Birthday

It's not possible to change Ramza's zodiac sign once you choose his birthday at the start of the game. Ramza's best zodiac signs are either Capricorn or Taurus due to how the zodiac compatibility in the game works.

Once you pick Ramza's birthday and zodiac sign, you won't be able to change it once you start the game!

Which Zodiac Sign Should You Choose?

All Points of No Return

Story Points of No Return

General Points of No Return

Chapter 2: Clockwork City of Goug

The first point of no return in Chapter 2 is Clockwork City of Goug. Entering the city will cause the way back to get blocked, forcing you to advance forward until you reach Golgollada Gallows.

Characters you've sent out to Errands will also not be able to return until you finish the battle in Golgollada Gallows. You also won't be able to purchase items or upgrade your gear once you enter Goug, so make sure to make the necessary preparations before entering the city!

Battle 19: Golgollada Gallows Guide

Chapter 2: Lionel Castle

Lionel Castle is the point of no return that concludes Chapter 2. Entering Lionel Castle will lead to the boss fight with Gaffgarion in Lionel Castle Gate, which then directly leads to the boss fight with Cúchulainn in the Lionel Castle Oratory.

As a note, you can walk past Lionel Castle by clicking on other towns. Your party will only enter Lionel Castle if you click on it directly on the map!

Battle 20: Lionel Castle Gate Guide

Chapter 3: Orbonne Monastery

The first point of no return in Chapter 3 is Orbonne Monastery and sees Ramza's party fight 3 battles consecutively, concluding with Wiegraf Folles on the third battle.

The fight with Wiegraf Folles is widely considered one of the toughest bosses in the game, so we recommend you make the necessary preparations such as leveling up and upgrading your gear before entering Orbonne Monastery!

Chapter 3: Riovanes Castle

Riovanes Castle is the point of no return in Chapter 3 and sees Ramza finally confront Grand Duke Barrington, and leads to a fight with Marquis Elmdore.

As this is the fight that concludes the chapter, we recommend leveling up your characters, stocking up on items, and upgrading your gear before taking on Riovanes Castle!

Battle 30: Riovanes Castle Gate Guide

Chapter 4: Orbonne Monastery

The Orbonne Monastery is the game's last point of no return in Chapter 4. Entering the Orbonne Monastery has your party fight through a series of consecutive battles that eventually leads to the final boss.

We recommend saving before entering Orbonne Monastery if you still want to explore the world, recruit special units such as Cloud Strife, and take on Midlight's Deep to challenge the superboss Elidibus.

Players Cannot Switch Between Enhanced and Classic Editions

Players will not be able to switch between Classic and Enhanced editions when progressing the game. A saved data in Classic edition cannot be used when starting the Enhanced edition, and vice versa.

You will need to make a new save data when starting a run on another edition.

Enhanced Mode is Recommended For Newcoming Players

Enhanced Mode is recommended for newcoming players who want to dive into the game, as it provides several improvements to the original as well as additional content in regards to gameplay and story.

Name and Birthday Cannot Be Changed Later During Progress

The Name and Birthday that you choose for the Classic version of the game will remain permanent throughout the rest of your run.

Your Zodiac Sign is determined by your birthday, which results to changes in your attacks so make sure to consider it carefully.

Zodiac Signs and Compatibility Chart

You Cannot Change Your Name in the Ivalice Edition

For the Ivalice version, your character will be known as Ramza and cannot be changed as a result of voice acting being implemented in the game. You can still change your birthday to determine Ramza's Zodiac Sign.

Units Will Not Return After Dying From Combat

Units killed during combat will not return and permanently die in the game. Make sure that your Units are well-equipped and leveled up properly to prevent this from happening.

You can avoid your Units from permanently dying by reviving them before the countdown hits 0 using the Raise spells from the White Mage job or Revive skill from the Monk job.

You can also try clearing out the battle before the countdown reaches 0 to ensure your Unit survives. The goal is to revive your Unit or finish the battle before its death countdown reaches 0.

How to Revive Characters

Specific Events Tied to Certain Characters May Disappear

Specific events tied to certain characters or units will disappear once they permanently die or dismissed from the party.

Make sure that special characters remain alive throughout your progress so that you can still progress the events tied to them.

Items Buried in Specific Areas Can Only be Obtained Once

Some items buried in specific locations during battle can be found by using the Treasure Hunter ability from the Chemist job. These buried items can be missed once you've progressed their stages in the game.
