Charge Time (CT) is used to determine the order of units' turns and spell resolutions in the game Final Fantasy Tactics - The Ivalice Chronicles. Learn how the Charge Time system works and how to play around it here.
Charge Time (CT) uses clock ticks to check when characters take their turns or when spells resolve. At the start of each battle, everyone starts at 0 CT, and each clock tick increases a unit's CT by their Speed. If no turn or action is ready, CT is raised until one can be executed.
CT can go past 100, even if the display only shows up to 100. After a unit takes their turn, their CT will properly reflect the new amount, including the spillover from before their turn.
| Actions | CT Spent |
|---|---|
| Movement and Action | 100 |
| Only Movement | 80 |
| Only Action | 80 |
| Wait | 60 |
Depending on the actions taken during a turn, a certain amount of CT is spent. By default, 60 CT will be spent during a turn, and using movement or an action will spend 20 CT each.
Most abilities in the game, from basic attacks to action abilities from most job skillsets, are all cast instantly when selected. These do not rely on CT and happen immediately during the turn.
Some spells that require charging have their own fixed speed values, making them reliant on CT and clock ticks to resolve. These spells tend to be magic or summons, but there are other abilities, like Aim from the Archer, that also require charging.
For example, a quick spell like Fire has 25 speed, requiring 4 clock ticks before it resolves. Meanwhile, a slower spell like Bahamut has 10 speed, requiring 10 clock ticks to resolve.

By understanding CT and how it works, you can check each unit's CT manually, allowing you to decide if it's worth not moving or taking an action to overtake an enemy in the turn order.
Enemies will always move and act if possible, but if they cannot perform any actions, they will only move and then end their turn by waiting, which grants them +20 CT.
Understanding CT also allows you to plan your actions so you can move before enemy spells are casted. This lets you position units away from a spell's target area, or you can cast Reflect to bounce it back to the caster.
