Best and Worst compatibility are determined by the unit's gender. Opposite genders have Best compatibility, while similar genders have Worst compatibility. Most monsters are unisex and are exempt from Zodiac compatibility.

Instead, monsters are assigned Bad compatibility for Zodiac Sign combos that would normally give Best or Worst compatibility.

Notable Monster Compatibilty Effects

Monster/s Compatibilty
Holy Dragon Reis Classified as a monster and follows monster compatibility rules, even though Reis's human form is female.
Cuchulainn, Zalera, and Hashmal Classified as male and follow the regular compatibility rules, even though they are Lucavi Demons.
Belias, Adrammelech, and Ultima Classified as monsters and follow monster compatibility rules.

There are a total of 13 Zodiac Signs in the game, determined by the character's birthdate. The optional boss Elidibus has his own special Zodiac Sign, Serpentarius. This Zodiac Sign is not accessible to the player and is only available to Elidibus himself. Serpentarius has neutral compatibility with all Zodiac Signs.

By understanding the signs and compatibilities of enemy bosses, you'll be able to make the optimal choice for Ramza's Zodiac Sign so that you can counter them. The most important sign to look out for is Virgo, since that's the sign that three of the hardest bosses use.

If you want to improve Ramza's offense against Virgo bosses, it's recommended to use Capricorn or Taurus, otherwise, you can opt for Pisces for a more defensive sign instead.

Zodiac Sign compatibility affects the amount of damage or healing spells do, as well as whether percentage-based actions succeed or fail.

On the other hand, it does not affect evasion, fall damage, Item effects, and various skills that have set success rates to inflict statuses, like the Assassin's ability Shadowbind, or deal a set amount of damage, like the damage output of Time Mage's spells Gravity and Graviga.

Some actions ignore Zodiac Sign compatibility. For example, the Assassin's ability Shadowbind has a 100% success rate for inflicting Stop on an enemy.
