Characters will need to equip a Movement Ability first in order for it to be activate. You can only equip one at a time, so make sure to select the movement ability that's most beneficial to the unit and their current build.
Generally, Teleport is the best choice since it's versatile and it allows you to see the floor layouts in Midlight's Deep, but Treasure Hunter is also a great choice so that you can find useful items and equipment during battle.
Movement abilities are passives that specifically affect a character's movement in battle. Effects range from increasing the number of steps a character can move, adding extra bonuses every time a character moves a square, or even being able to move on new terrain that can't normally be stepped on.
