Escutcheon (II) is by far the best shield in the game. It has the highest Physical and Magick Evasion out of all the shields. However, you can't simply buy it from a shop and have to find it as a treasure.

Although Mirror Mail doesn't have the highest HP stat, it's still a decent amount, and its Permanent Reflect effect is significantly more useful in battles than simply having higher HP.

Power Garb's +2 Physical Attack bonus adds a lot of damage, which is better than other Clothing that simply has higher HP.

Lordly Robe is argubly the best armor in the game. On top of increasing both Attack aand Magick Power, it also increases the wearer's Physical and Magickal resistance, giving a well-balanced boost.

Grand Helm has the highest HP stat among the other helmets and blocks Blindness and Sleep ailments. However, it's only compatible with Knights, Dragoons, and Samurais.

The +2 Speed stat is Thief's Cap's most notable upside given that the stat essentially gives the wearer more turns during battles, which is the most important mechanic of the game.
