Marvel
Using matchmaking to find other players to play with is one of the best ways to play Marvel's Avengers Game. Read on to learn how does the matchmaking work, what happens to empty slots, and solutions to matchmaking issues.

How does Matchmaking Work

Matches Players with Similar Power Level

The matchmaking system prioritizes putting players with similar Power Levels together, making the multiplayer experience balanced in terms of player strength. There are 2 options when playing Quick Match:

  • Selected Hero: Choose this to continue playing as the Hero you are currently using
  • Any Hero: This option will let you play as any Hero

Press Launch Mission to Ready Up

Once you are ready you will need to press the Launch Mission button. This will not start the mission right away, it instead serves the same function as a Ready Up button. This will put the Strike Team into the Ready Up phase, ending the Matchmaking. To start the mission everyone in the Strike Team must press Launch Mission, whether or not the Strike Team is full.

What Happens to Empty Slots

Requested Heroes will Fill Slots

If a mission has started with empty slot(s) in the Strike Team, it will be filled with the requested Heroes. If there are more requested Heroes than slots, then it will randomly choose the heroes from the list. If multiple players have requested the same Hero, the AI Companion with the higher Power Level is chosen.

Matchmaking Issues

Matchmaking Taking too Long

The matchmaking can sometimes take a while, and when it does find a player, their Power Level or Hero could not be to your liking. It would be a good idea to play with friends instead of finding a random player to find faster or to play with the right players.

If you do not have any friends to play, do not fret, we got you. Check out our Multiplayer Board to find the dream team you have always been looking for!

Matchmaking Not Working

The multiplayer can occasionally have problems that prevent it from working. These are two common reasons why matchmaking is not working.

Servers are Down

Sometimes there will be issues that can lead Crystal Dynamics to shut down the servers temporarily. There is nothing to do but wait until they bring the servers back up. Make sure to check the Marvel's Avengers official status updates to know when servers go down and to know when they are back up!

Update is Needed

Only an up to date version of the game can access multiplayer. Check for any updates if the multiplayer is not working for you. If you did download the update and the multiplayer still is not working, you may have to restart the game to install the update.

If you are having any other issues with the game, its a good idea to check out our Troubleshooting Guide below!
