Fine wood are obtained from chopping Birch trees located in the Meadows, Black Forest, and Plains biomes. They are easily distinguishable by their white and slender trunks.
Birch trees can be chopped by using a Bronze Axe or better.
Fine wood can also be obtained from chopping oak trees located in the Meadows and Plains biomes. These trees can be identified by their brown trunks that are thicker than most trees.
Oak Trees can be chopped by using a Bronze Axe or better as well.
When you are able to find a Troll in the either Biome with Oak trees or Birch trees, you can bait and evade its attacks on the said trees. The Troll's attacks easily break down the trees in to raw materials for you to harvest them later even before beating the first boss Eikthyr.
If you don't mind using cheats to obtain it, Fine Wood can easily be spawned with the console command.
To spawn the item, first turn on cheat codes by typing imacheater in the F5 console, and use the spawn FineWood command to create the item.

Soap most likely originated from when people cooked food on a spit and the fat dripped on to the white ash in the fire and when combined with water it made a lather. Adding soap could introduce hygiene factors into the game. They could introduce it similar to how the hunger works, like, the better your hygiene, the more health/stamina you can gain. Making soap could consist of cooking meat over the spit, the fat mixing with ash and then mixing it with water could give you soap.
