Build a Farm and Farmhouse

Manor Lords - How to Make Flour - Build a Farm and Farmhouse

The first step to making Flour is building a field and farmhouse in the right location to plant and harvest Wheat or Rye. Flour starts out as either Wheat or Rye, so you have to build your farm on top of land with high Emmer or Rye fertility.

You can check out which areas have high fertility while you're plotting your field. The view options will be on the right side of your screen. The greener the area, the better it is for planting Wheat or Rye.

Click on your field and choose Wheat as its crop, then assign some families to your farmhouse. The more families you have working in the farmhouse, the faster you can harvest your Wheat and make Grain.

Rye is a good alternative to Wheat because it is more resistant, and can even be planted in soil with lower fertility. To unlock Rye as a crop, purchase the Rye Cultivation development node.

Set the Threshing Priority to High

By setting the threshing priority to high, your farmers will prioritize converting the harvested crop into Grain rather than storing it as a crop. If you plan on stocking up on crops, you can lower the threshing priority.

Build a Windmill

Material(s) Quantity
Timber x4

It is recommended that you construct Windmills and Farmhouses near each other in your settlement, as it can help you efficiently convert Grain into Flour. It only costs 4 Timber, and is recommended to be built in an open space near the farm aiming for at least 97% efficiency.

Alternative Ways to Get Flour

Trade For Flour Directly

If you have a surplus of Regional Wealth, you can opt to build a Trading Post and import Flour directly. This can help supply Flour to your Windmill, especially if your settlement is not producing enough Flour to sustain a supply of Bread.

Trade For Grain

If your region is not ideal for planting Wheat, you can still get Flour by importing Grain. This way your Windmill can still get a supply of Grain to convert into Flour.
