The Royal Tax is deducted from your Treasury annually. The Treasury, also known as Personal Wealth, is taxed from the Regional Wealth your settlements generate.
Thus, your focus is to help your townspeople generate Regional Wealth through Burgage Plots and Trading Posts.
Taxes Guide: How to Increase Treasury
Once you reach the Medium Village Level, you can start enacting taxes by building a Manor. Through your Manor, you can set taxes in increments of 10%.
We recommend collecting taxes once you have a continuous and stable income of Regional Wealth.
Building a Tax Office is optional in Early Access as it is a building currently under rework and only serves cosmetic purposes for now.
Be careful with Taxes, however, as it is a resource you balance with Approval. If you impose too much, your Approval will decrease by a large amount.
The Annual Royal Tax you owe to the king can always be checked at the upper right portion of the screen, denoted by the crown and coin UI icon beside the picture of your Lord or Lady.
