To make and distribute Ale in Manor Lords, you need to farm and harvest Barley, convert the Barley into Malt with a Malthouse, build a Brewery extension on a level 2 Burgage Plot, and build a Tavern. The process can get pretty tedious, so we'll break down each step for you.

  1. Build a Farm and Farmhouse
  2. Plant and Harvest Barley
  3. Build a Malthouse near the Farm
  4. Build a Brewery in a Level 2 Burgage Plot
  5. Build a Tavern

Build a Farm and Farmhouse

Manor Lords - How to Make Ale - Build a Farm

The first step to making Ale is building a field and farmhouse in the right location. Ale starts out as Barley, so you have to build your farm on top of land with high Barley fertility.

You can check out which areas have high Barley fertility while you're plotting your field. The view options will be on the right side of your screen. The greener the area, the better it is for planting Barley.

Plant and Harvest Barley

Click on your field and choose Barley as its crop, then assign some families to your farmhouse. The more families you have working in the farmhouse, the faster you can harvest your Barley and make Ale.

Build a Malthouse Near the Farm

After planting and harvesting Barley, build a Malthouse to convert the Barley into Malt. We recommend placing your Malthouse near the farm so it takes less time to transport your goods.

Build a Brewery Extension in a Level 2 Burgage Plot

It's time to turn that Malt into Ale! You'll need a level 2 Burgage Plot big enough to accommodate a Brewery Extension. If you don't know how to upgrade your Burgage Plot and get a backyard extension, we have a helpful guide for that too!

To distribute that sweet Ale, you'll need to build a Tavern. This will fulfill the Tavern requirement for your Burgage Plots, and is necessary to upgrade Burgage Plots past level 2.

Alternative Ways to Get Ale

Import Ale from Trading Post

Trade Route Cost 48 Regional Wealth
Import Cost 18 Regional Wealth

If you have a surplus of Regional Wealth, you can opt to build a Trading Post and import Ale directly. This can help supply Ale to your Tavern and by extension your burgage plots, especially if your settlement has grown too large that the demand exceeds your current supply.

Acquire the Trade Logistics development for cheaper trade routes

The Trade Logistics development puts a cap on the cost of opening new trade routes. The new price of opening new trade routes will now cost a maximum of 25 Regional Wealth only.

Trade Logistics Development and How to Unlock

Import Malt or Barley from Trading Post

Trade Route Cost 12 Regional Wealth (Barley)
24 Regional Wealth (Malt)
Import Cost 12 Regional Wealth (Barley)
14 Regional Wealth (Malt)

If your region is not ideal for planting Barley, you can still get Ale by importing Barley or Malt. This way your Malthouse can still get a supply of Barley and your Brewery can still convert Malt into Ale.
