Windmill - How to Build and Use

Manor Lords - How to Use Windmills
The Windmill is one of the Farming buildings available in Manor Lords. Learn what the Windmill does, how to build and upgrade the Windmill, how to fix the Windmill not working, and tips on how to use the Windmill effectively here!

How to Fix Windmill Not Working

Build Windmill and Farmhouse Near Each Other

If you want to avoid the Windmill not working, you should consider building the Farmhouse and the Windmill near each other to streamline the transportation of goods.

You should also check if the constructed buildings are always connected to the road network.

Set Threshing Priority to High

Manor Lords - Threshing Priority

One possible reason why your Windmill is not converting Grain into Flour could be tied to Wheat not being Threshed. Harvested Wheat needs to be Threshed into Grain first before it can be processed and turned into Flour.

To ensure that your Wheat gets Threshed into Grain, you can set Threshing Priority to high from the Farmhouse's Advanced menu, which will make your workers prioritize Threshing over other farm tasks.

Double Check Windmill Efficiency

Manor Lords - Check Windmill Efficiency

Windmill Efficiency is another factor that can cause your Windmill to slow down or stop working entirely. Windmill Efficiency is based on surrounding structures and trees, having higher efficiency with less buildings and trees surrounding the Windmill.

A likely culprit is that you accidentally planted trees or constructed buildings beside your Windmill, which lowers its Efficiency. There is no way to check Efficiency from the Windmill's menus, but you can hover a new Windmill Building on top of your existing one to check the efficiency in that area.

How to Use Windmill

Convert Grain From Farmhouse Stock

You can use Windmills in your settlement to convert crops like Grain into Flour. Be sure to construct your Windmills near your Farmhouse and Fields to streamline the transportation and production of flour.

Provide Flour to Communal Ovens or Bakery Extensions

Manor Lords - Communal Oven

Once you've stored Flour in your Windmills, you will need to construct Communal Ovens or Bakery Extensions in your Level 2 Burgage Plots so that you could use your supply of Flour and bake them into Bread.

Bakery Extensions Require Level 2 Burgage Plots

Bakery Extensions will require you to level up your Burgage Plots to Level 2 so they can be constructed. Settlers working on your Bakery Extensions will be converted into Artisans.
