Rye Cultivation increases the variety of resources you could harvest in your Fields by unlocking the Rye crop in your settlement. This upgrade provides an alternative crafting material for Grain, which is one of the basic components to make Bread.

Rye Cultivation received a C-Tier rating due to Rye not being a necessity in terms of resources in your settlement.

It is recommended to find more fertile lands to grow Wheat or import the crop entirely from Trading Posts, instead of prioritizing Rye as an alternative source for your Bread.

How Does Rye Cultivation Work

Provides Alternative for Wheat

Similar to Wheat, Rye can be converted into Grain using Farmhouses. From there, established Windmills in your settlement can turn the Grain into Flour, which gets collected by workers assigned to Communal Ovens or Bakery Extensions to produce Bread.

It is recommended that Rye be added to your crop variety if you plan to have Bread as a consistent supply in your settlement.

Grows in Less Fertile Fields

One advantage Rye has over Wheat is that the crop can grow on less fertile Fields, allowing you to harvest the basic component of Bread even on fields not ideal for crop growth.

It is also recommended that you try to unlock other upgrades that can help streamline crop growth such as Heavy Plow or Fertilization. These upgrades can further augment the benefits of Rye Cultivation, and help you harvest crops more efficiently in your settlement.
