How to Hire Mercenaries

Costs Treasury to Purchase Mercenaries

Manor Lords - Treasury.png
Mercenaries are hired using Treasury, and require a monthly payment for them to stay in your army. They can be used as soon as they are hired and will leave as soon as they are disbanded or you can't afford to pay their monthly fee.

Each Mercenary Company is comprised of different units, making them specialized at different combat ranges. Their cost also differs depending on how many units they have, as well as the type of units they can provide.

Mercenaries Ignore the Army Limit

Manor Lords - Mercenaries Bypass Unit Limit
Similar to Retinue, Mercenaries can bypass the 6-unit army limit. Consider recruiting Militia first before hiring mercenaries, so that you can maximize the amount of units your army has.

Cannot Hire Mercenaries?

Mercenaries Stop Spawning in the Late-Game

Manor Lords - No More Mercenaries to Hire in the Late-Game
After a few years have passed, the list of mercenaries you can choose from shrinks, eventually resulting in no more mercenaries available for hire. This is because the Baron has recruited most of them, leaving you with little to zero companies to choose from.

Try to recruit mercenaries whenever you have Treasury to spare, otherwise, you may miss out on your chance to hire them forever.

Not Enough Treasury to Hire

Manor Lords - Check Your Treasury
Treasury is the amount of money you can spend denoted by the amount indicated on the top-right of your screen, and it's not to be confused with Regional Wealth.

If you can't hire mercenaries, then you might not have the Treasury required, or you could be looking at your Regional Wealth instead.
