How to Make Bread in Manor Lords

Steps of Bread Production

To make and distribute Bread in Manor Lords, you need to farm and harvest Wheat or Rye, convert them into Grain with the Farmhouse, build a Windmill to convert the Grain into Flour, then have either a Communal Oven or a Bakery extension on a level 2 Burgage Plot turn it into Bread. The process can get pretty tedious, so we'll break down each step for you.

  1. Build a Farm and Farmhouse
  2. Plant and Harvest Wheat or Rye
  3. Set the Threshing Priority to High
  4. Build a Windmill near the Farm
  5. Build a Bakery or Communal Oven

Build a Farm and Farmhouse

Manor Lords - How to Make Bread - Build a Farm and Farmhouse

The first step to making Bread is building a field and farmhouse in the right location. Bread starts out as either Wheat or Rye, so you have to build your farm on top of land with high Emmer or Rye fertility.

You can check out which areas have high fertility while you're plotting your field. The view options will be on the right side of your screen. The greener the area, the better it is for planting Wheat or Rye.

Plant and Harvest Wheat or Rye

Click on your field and choose Wheat as its crop, then assign some families to your farmhouse. The more families you have working in the farmhouse, the faster you can harvest your Wheat and make Bread.

Rye is a good alternative to Wheat because it is more resistant, and can even be planted in soil with lower fertility. To unlock Rye as a crop, purchase the Rye Cultivation development node.

Set the Threshing Priority to High

By setting the threshing priority to high, your farmers will prioritize converting the harvested crop into Grain rather than storing it as a crop. If you plan on stocking up on crops, you can lower the threshing priority.

Build a Windmill Near the Farm

After planting and harvesting Grain, build a Windmill to convert the Grain into Flour. We recommend placing your Windmill in a clear and open area near the farm so it maximizes efficiency and takes less time to transport your goods.

Build a Communal Oven or a Bakery Extension in a Level 2 Burgage Plot

It's time to turn that Flour into Bread! You'll need either a Communal Oven or a level 2 Burgage Plot big enough to accommodate a Bakery Extension.

Manor Lords - How to Make Bread - Bakeries Extension Node

Building a Bakery Extension requires the Bakeries Development node, but it produces twice as much bread per Flour. This is great if your settlement has large food requirements, but the Communal Oven will work fine if you want to save your development points.
