What Does Scan RIG to Unlock Workstation Mean?

The phrase “Scan RIG to Unlock Workstation” appears on some background props throughout the Ishimura. These props can't be interacted with and there's no way to actually scan your RIG to gain access to them.

These are simply a part of world-building, and although the phrase reads like a set of instructions, they won't be any help for Isaac during his difficult journey.

Password System of the Future

It's likely that by the time of Dead Space, passwords are a thing of the past, and users of a terminal, etc. would instead scan their RIG as a form of identification.

This explains why Isaac can't interact with them as well; because he's not the intended user, scanning his RIG wouldn't do anything to grant him access to a locked computer or device.
