As soon as you find a save point, save your game. It doesn't matter if you just saved a couple of minutes ago, just save your game. If you are ever close to death, immediately press Start or Esc to bring up the Main Menu, then go back to the main menu to load the most recent save file. Restarting from an earlier point is better than having to restart from the beginning.
The video's actual length was shortened, but you will still be able to continue on Impossible if you get to the main menu before the death scene.
Once you obtain the Kinesis Module at the start of Chapter 2, use it as much as you can as it has “unlimited” ammo. Use Kinesis on torn limbs, poles, stasis and explosive bombs. This will conserve your ammo for when you really need to use it.
Alternatively, you can also use the explosives placed in random spots of the Ishimura. Timing your shot with these can eliminate multiple threats as they come.
It's better to paranoid and safe than sorry. If you approach an area with a lot of corpses much like the common area in Chapter 10, dismembering corpses takes away the worry of dealing with Infectors turning corpses into Necromorphs to overwhelm you with numbers.
While it does help deal with the jumpscare and ease the tension from hearing scratches in the walls, playing with audio helps in alerting you of a possible nearby enemy encounter. It if your audio system has Spatial Sound or any similar software, playing with sounds can alert you of an enemy's position before you even see them.
We recommended completing the game first on Easy to familiarize yourself with all the objectives of every chapter. Afterwards, attempt to complete the game a second time around on Hard. This will familiarize you with how much damage you can deal or take.
All Difficulty Settings: Is There a Difficulty Trophy?
Completing Impossible Mode rewards the player with a new suit and weapon not found in the original Dead Space.
The suit, the Burnished Suit, is a cosmetic item with no effect on stats. However, the Hand Cannon is a returning weapon originating in Dead Space 2 which auto-kills any enemy, resembling the “We're number 1” foam hand worn by fans at sports events.
Info credit to Windmill Productions for sharing the Burnished Suit and Hand Cannon in action. We're still working on finishing Impossible Mode, so we'll add more specific details once we've confirmed the items on our end.

Complete the game on the hardest difficulty setting. ►Impossible Mode Rewards and Changes |
Completing Impossible Mode rewards the player with the Untouchable trophy. This is the same as the Epic Tier 3 Engineer trophy from the original game, but with the name changed to reflect the changes to Impossible Mode and how it no longer permits dying even once, limiting the trophy to only players who are truly Untouchable.
List of All Trophies and Achievements
Version | Description and Unlock Condition |
---|---|
Original | Increased overall difficulty compared to Hard mode. Resources are very scarce, and enemies will brutalize you. Unlocked after finishing the game on any difficulty. |
Remake | A special challenge mode. Completing it will earn a unique suit and weapon. This mode has the same damage settings as Hard Difficulty, but autosaves are disabled; only one save slot is available, and one life. Dying prompts a full restart, or continuing on Hard Difficulty. Unlocked automatically from the start of the game. |
The nature of Impossible Mode has been completely changed in the Remake. Although enemies and drops are now only the same as on Hard difficulty, players can no longer die even once. A single death will give the player the choice of either restarting the entire game or continuing on Hard difficulty.
The original game required players to complete the game once to unlock the Impossible Mode difficulty setting, but in the remake, it is available immediately from the start of the game, so players who are familiar with the original can jump right in to the nightmare on full blast.
