Video logs usually play when Isaac has lengthy conversations with the rest of his fellow survivors aboard the Ishimura. Other video-type logs include security camera footage that can be collected as you explore the ship.
A notable difference between the original game and the Dead Space Remake was that a few of the old video logs were repurposed and turned into holographic projections that you can view as you unlock new areas of the ship.

Audio Logs are a type of collectible that can range from an exchange of dialogue, to quick one-liners belted out by you or your fellow survivors while exploring the ship. Other types of audio logs can range from audio diaries, recorded conversations, or cries for help.
Much like in the original version of Dead Space, some of the audio logs in the remake are also notoriously missable, with some being impossible to collect until you start a New Game Plus save.

Text Logs in the remake have undergone a major rework. Instead of sticking to the narrative of the infection, brand new logs have been introduced in-game that expand on the background lore of the Dead Space universe and the Ishimura's crew. Some of the new text logs include advertisements, invations to poker night, and even a hastily scrawled note about the hidden Peng Treasure.

Some of the collectible logs will trigger the Dead Space Remake's brand new Side Missions when collected. Players who want to explore the Ishimura and uncover the truth behind the Necromorph outbreak can do so by embarking on these optional quests.

The information stored in these logs are accounts and reports from the various crew members of the USG Ishimura. The player can access these logs to better understand the events that led to the Necromorph outbreak and the motivations behind the actions of the Ishimura's crew of survivors.
